CNRP leader Sam Rainsy yesterday said that he would try to “protect” the culture of dialogue between the ruling and opposition parties, days after Prime Minister Hun Sen appeared to assert that it was over.

In a speech on Monday, Hun Sen had called for the speedy conviction of seven opposition lawmakers for leading an insurrection in connection with a July 15 protest.

In the immediate after math of the speech, Rainsy was tight-lipped, saying only that he wanted to “defuse tensions”.

Yesterday, speaking to supporters in Tbong Khmum province, Rainsy said he would try to revive the “culture of dialogue” ushered in by a July 22 political accord.
