Where is this farang hell I keep reading about?

Featured Replies

Now and then, I read comments on farang living in Thailand being used and abused, gluttons for punishment, etc. Maybe I hang out with the wrong people? I haven't had any issues as of yet. Nothing more than typical bureaucratic shenanigans I have found in every other country I've lived in. Can someone clarify for me what this talk is all about?

Nope, not a troll post. Would honestly like to hear what is going on that people are commenting negatively about living in Thailand. They never seem to specify what it is they dislike about Thailand. What are the issues? I've only been here a few months but haven't found anything particularly negative beyond a preference for better options healthcare-wise. Maybe I'd feel differently if I knew how to carry on a conversation in Thai. That's my problem, not Thailand's.

Steven, if it's a closed topic for you, meaning this in a friendly way, why don't you simply ignore this post and let those who would like to contribute meaningfully, do so? There's thousands of other posts on this site you might contribute.

Have been here three years, things started out ok,like you, then the Mrs stepson arrived, barely even house trained, then she moved her father in,,ok if i had built the house i would of said no,but it is her house ,though i have paid for extensions, etc, unfortunately it has now come to the stage, where i really feel it is time to move on,i am not saying they are bad people,it is just the Thai way of looking at life i find is so different to ours, that it reminds me of the great sci fi book "stranger in a strange land'.

There are three actually, Death Island (koh Tao), Pattaya, and Phuket. The rest of Thailand is rather nice once you learn a little of their culture. coffee1.gif

Maybe they should rename ko tao,the dark island,or something lord of the rings like.

Similarly, there are thousands of other posts on this site that explain the trials and tribulations, the frustrations, and the problems that can arise when you are a foreigner living in Thailand.

You would be well advised to spend some time reading the forum, instead of starting a topic that has a high probablity of becoming a bitch-fest or lots of people slagging off Thailand and Thai people. (Hence, a troll topic.)

Op this subject has been covered in numerous topics. For the sake of repetition, please browse through several pages of the general forum, you will find many answers. Also suggest you peruse the Pub, expat forum.

Thank You.
