Samut Sakhon to Chonburi by Scooter

Featured Replies

I am planning a 3 to 4 weeks trip from Phuket to the east (Trat) and up via Ubon, Nong Khai and then back via Loei, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son down south again. Please don't tell me it is crazy, I know that and I want to do it. My experience on Thai roads add up to roughly 400,000 km by car and 100,000 km by motorbike, so I think that should give an idea.

The only gap in my route is the way around Bangkok in the South (see subject). Does anyone know if the ferry crossing the Chao Praya called "Viboonsri Phra Samut Chedi Ferry" is operational and takes motorbikes (Honda PCX and that size) across? It would save a lot of hazzle to go that way instead of going through the town. Or maybe a bridge across is on the way? I didn't find one on the maps. sad.png

Thanks for any hints.

i dont know but the trip sounds awesome man, good luck and post some pics along the way (y)

Oh, I forgot to mention: There is a lot of bridges, but many are forbidden for motorbikes...

A friend of mine did it about 10 years ago on a Honda Dream. It was a great experience and he loved the tour. The pics will be published for sure.

The only ferry I know about in south BKK is this one.

Google earth in all their wisdom calls it a toll road but you better have some super Hi Float tires.

It was in operation about 3 weeks ago when a friend came up from Hua Hin. 10 Baht. Takes Harleys. Get an ice cream.

I guess I should add: Follow 35 (Rama II) to 303 south, left on 3104. Just follow it to the river. It's a marketplace so the road are small. I do believe you turn right at the river and you will see the ferry on the left. Just follow the road straight out of the ferry and it will take you to Sukhumvit. Left on Sukhumvit to Chonburi Bangna expressway.

When younger I bought a kawasaki 125cc and toured Thailand for one year. Then went to Northern Vietnam and did a 3 month ride on a rented 125cc Honda. Great fun.

I am thinking of buying a bigger bike now and doing some touring here.

I am envious! Have a great trip.
