Why do Thai's sit on the ground?

Featured Replies

I've been puzzled for a long time as to why Thai's eat meals sitting on the ground. Is there some significance or do they just feel there is not a need for a table and chairs? I realize that spending money on a table and chairs might be seen as "wasteful" but having food, even with a mat, down at ground level just seems, well I will use the term 'different'.

Other countries, different habits.

God, these threads get more inane with

every passing day.

The OP is obviously not a well traveled or informed person to ask this question.

There are so many variations on eating habits across different cultures of the world, that you will one day find out that there are indeed many countries as you would put it who are......"different".

Nobody is forcing you to read them.

The title of this thread made it quite clear what you should expect.

Why do you sit on a chair?

because those small chairs are for children

u c that "off" button?

personally I do everything on my bed, I never sit down dont find it anything like a s comfortable as lying on my bed, but sitting on the floor is about as uncomfortable as i can imagine.

Anyone who has ever sat on Thai-style furniture for long, will understand why Thais choose to sit on the hard ground.

I have strong suspicions that at some point in his life, a grinning Marquis de Sade spent time in Thailand designing chairs and benches.

Because they can't eat the chairs.
