Moving out of Chiang Mai before end of Internet contract

Hi,

After 6 months in Chiang Mai I'm moving out. I have my 1-year 3BB contract still running and they say I have to pay 5000 bht in order to cancel it. I have read in this forum, it would be cheaper to pay my 6 remaining months (590x6), which is true, but still a big amount. Other suggestion: to transfer the contract to another person for around 1000 bht. That would be a good one. And I would choose it if anybody interested in my contract. You would get my 3BB DSL router and you woudn't need to pay 6 months in advance.

But as a south european, I can avoid another question coming to my mind whistling.gif What if I just leave? 3BB doesn't have my bank account. Is there any kind of black list in Thailand that would make me problems to contract with other operators in case I come back?

For those who are already thinking about writing comments about my bad ethics, I repeat that I would pay those 1000 bht for the contract transfer if somebody shows up, but I think more that 3000 bht is far too much for the cancellation, and I wasn't informed about that when I made the contract.

Anybody interested? Any suggestions?

What nonsense you write....that you were not informed that you would have to see out your contract or at the very least, pay for the remainder.

How do contracts work in your home country? You run away there too?

I hope that no one takes up your 'offer'. Who would want to be associated with such a person?

Either you are an idiot for not reading the contract or a scumbag for not wishing to honour it.

It's people like you that make them start thinking of things like insisting on deposits etc. for the honest people you leave behind.

Go and take a running jump pal.

Don't be one of those who gives farangs a bad reputation ... but I'm sure you're a southern European of impeccable integrity.

You're not Greek by any chance .....?

My God, the guy asks a legitimate question and the first 4 posters castigate him as the epitome of stupidity and evil.

Thaivisa has really gone to the dogs.

I too have a 3BB annual contract. I had no idea of any 5000 Baht cancellation fee. Obviously I am very stupid and should be struggled by the Red Guards.

What was the legitimate question?

Didn't bother to understand a foreign service contract so can't be bothered by abiding by the terms so wants to know what the consequences are going to be, or if someone can buy take over the account, or if there are any other suggestions (to break the contract)?
You mean those legitimate questions?

Here the troll speaking. I just asked for a possible solution to make things right at the lowest cost, but I see I won't find any on this forum. Thank you anyway.

i done see how you can post this. you are farang and no matter what you do or dont do you are still farang. there are not rating degrees of farangness. you cannot be anything other than farang. there is not such thing as farang with bad reputation. or farang with good reputation for that matter. farang is the complete definitive. you may hear good farang or bad farang but it carries no meaning.

The lowest cost is whichever is cheaper of paying up the contract or paying the exit fee.

It's not rocket science.

Did you asked 3BB if you can pause the contract? True is doing it for a small fee up to 90days. Remainder of the contract would need to be paid though.

I just got a 3BB contract in Chiangmai. For Foreigners they ask to pay the first 6 month ( no the full year as in Pattaya ) .

You also sign an agreement that stipulate the amount to pay in case of cancellation before 1 year. 5005 bahts for a 10 MB line.

Same for Thai citizen except they need to pay only the first month but they have the same penalty if they cancel before the end of the first year.

I guess as you said , it is cheaper to pay the next 6 month than cancel.

But if you move to another condo in Thailand , you could probably have you service transferred for a fee and complete your first year.

A firned a mine moved his 3BB from Changkland Rd to Canal Rd near the convention Center and had the3 BB transferred.

I do not know if he was in the first year of the contract or not.

The miserable old farts have pronounced their verdict, the troll, RRodriguez, is to be hanged at dawn.

Dawn isn't good for me, and probably not good for RRodriquez either. Can we reschedule?

Jeez. Completly legit thread but twilight zone responses. In what countries do you have to pay for a 12 month internet contract in advance??

And to be fair, companies are screwing you to make you sign 12 month "contracts' or else no service. Its not really a contract when only one side gets to write the details. So trying to find a way out of it is Completly normal. Who needs a aervice for exactly one year? You are not allowed to have changes in your life?? If there was a minimum period like three months or whatever, so the company can at least break even, that is fair. But one year, or two and three year contracts like we have back in the states is just taking advantage of the little people.

Yes, but they can go after them.

With farang the ones who remain end up paying in the long run.

Oh, did someone make him sign it at gunpoint?

If you don't want a year contract, Pay As You Go. Again, it's not rocket science.

He and you are just making excuses to break a contract.

That's what makes it so difficult to do things these days, too many people cannot be trusted.

Yeah you have to pay it.

Worth noting that if for some reason you don't pay it, or (for those that take a year contract, don't expressly cancel it), 3BB continue charging perpetually, forever, and will not cancel until you settle all levied fees.

Stung me for 3k cos I assumed 1 year meant one year, that since it was prepaid it was fully paid, and just moved house.. 4 months later a frantic ex landlord is on the phone.

Trust me, if you just do a runner, once it hits a certain level, if not legal action, worst case scenario some 'independent debt collectors' will be very interested in determining if you are still in Thailand, and if you are, they most likely will have connections with immigration to help discover exactly where you are. Ever seen the Thai guys in full helmets doing house and business visits...? I have, and wouldn't like them visiting me.

The reason the telecoms companies often charge foreigners 12 months up front is precisely because of people acting like you suggest.

Its not rocket science to realize that the choice is between contract and no service at all. There is no pay as you go.

What a load of old rubbish.

Everyone in Thailand runs out on bills they don't want to pay.

Only loan sharks chase & threaten them.

Running out on loans is the modern way, only the old white dinosaurs on this forum think different.

I was one of the first four and I didnt do any castigation.

I just pointed out that in Pattaya you cant sign up with 3BB without paying a year in advance. It doesnt take much imagination to work out why they make this requirement, and I'm surprised that they dont do the same thing elsewhere.

Only for utter embarassments and scumbags. It's not a generational thing, I'm much closer to school age than retirement age.

Telecoms companies sometimes sell the debts on, same as in the west - it's not rubbish and you take your chances.
