Hi,

Does anyone know if it will be harder for me to get a uk tourist visa for my fiancee because i was made personal bankrupt here in england a couple of years ago....? Also is there a certain amount of earnings i need to earn per month to be able to show imigration so they can see i can take care of my fiancee while she stays here? Someone once told me that you have to earn like £20,000+ per year lol :D:D:D:D:D:D:D (This is probably a lot of bull**** :o )

Thanks.

I am not sure that they would find out unless you told them . The questions on the application form relate principally to the applicant , so your background is mostly irrellevant. If they did find out it certainly wouldn't help you . Officially i'm sure its supposed to make no differance , but being human(apparently) the ECO's could hardly not let it affect their judgement. I suspect it would never arise though.

To your second question NO there is not a set amount you need to earn. You need to show you can accomodate and provide for her , so as long as you can show your income easily takes care of your likely outgoings you will be fine.

What you may have overlooked is that you are applying for a tourist visa for your fiancee. Now part of the criteria for a tourist visa is to show she will return at the end of the stated visit . You will need to write a covering letter saying, amounst all the other things, that you and she understand the importance of her returning to Thailand when you say you will and that , being your fiancee, you will want to build up an excellent immigration record because one day you may be applying for asettlement visa for her.

If she is entirely funding the visit from her own resources then your finances wont come into it. But if you are providing some or all of the funds then you need to show that you can afford to do so.

Debts are not a problem, even bankruptcy. As long as you can show that you are adequately servicing those debts and still have enough to live on and pay for her visit. The same will be true when (if?) you come to apply for settlement. In fact, bankruptcy may even help, as you can show that your debts are under control and being dealt with.

As one reply said, bankruptcy is not really an issue.... it is your circumstances now that will be circumspect, but only if you are funding the event.... if she is paying her own way.... no problem.

If she isn't, the last time I checked (which was a couple of years ago so it may have gone up a little bit) you need in the region on 57 pounds a week to take care of yourself as far as the UK Gov is concerned. So 57 times 2... do you have that income every month after you have paid off your debts.

That's the first hurdle :o .... and that is usually the easy one.

Yeah i will be funding all the funds. I was discharged from bankruptcy a year ago so I am no longer bankrupt which means i don't pay any debts now, I am free from all debts. :D

Thanks for your advice GU22 :D:o
