Nemesis7
I'm sure there are many monks who are simply extra ordinary human being and great people but on the other hand there are those who use the faith as business and flies with jet and drives luxury cars and leads a separate dual life. Such business oriented leaders from different religion and faiths are almost every where in every society and country on the globe. And at times the business is just too good and hey guess what , it's tax free....
petercool
Unfortunately there are also fake monks who prey on the gullible and who have no affiliation with any temple but simply buy robes and pretend to be monks. Not sure if this group is of that type.

About the only 'real' practioners of Theravada Buddhism are wats associated with Forest Monestaries, and/or that strictly adhere to Vinaya. Everything else sort of reminds me of Bible Belt Tele-evangalism in the US. "Hallalujah brothers and sisters, you can buy your way to heaven. Just write your checks out to____(fill-in-the-blank-ministries)___, and we accept Mastercard and Visa too!!!" Monks with iPod 6s and ear buds. <head shake>
