Money Exchange. Anyone want to sell Canadian dollars?

Hello.

I am returning to Canada soon and would be willing to sell some Thai Baht for Canadian dollars. I will pay an extra 1/2 Baht, above posted Bangkok Bank exchange rate that day. I found it's hard to get Banks to sell Canadian dollars.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to get Thai Baht changed to CAD? Any experience with money transfers through banks from Thailand to Canada?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Cheers

^ At terrible exchange rates.

You can also change at Suvarnabhumi airport; typical bank rate and they're more likely to have CAD.

That said, all of this depends on the OP's definition of 'some'.

Are we talking a couple thousand baht or a couple million baht

It cracks me up. Guys agonize over exchange rates when they are only wanting to change 300 dollars/euros/whatever. Winnie is right to ask how much are we talking about.

We drop our CAD @ either SK or Super Rich currency exchangers. Forget about the banks.

As of today (feb.24) CAD buying @ 25.75 (2nd lowest rate of the month) and selling @ 25.95

BKK Bank: selling at 26.13

*Super Rich has a website that you can check rates. Located middle of Loikroh road.

SK is usually a touch better, but not always - no website, located next to the reggae pub which is next to the entrance of the iron bridge entrance.

Good Luck

There is also SK money changer on night Bazar just south of Thae Pai Gate Road On the right

OP is looking to buy Canadian Dollars. You really think that a money changer will be holding Canadian money ??

If the SK on Charoen Prathet does not have it, they can get it by tomorrow.

If the amount is very very large some special arrangements may be necessary but the OP has not indicated an amount, has he?

Here in Thailand the money changers buy foreign currency and sell baht. That bought foreign currency is rapidly sent to the 'middle man' that wants f/x and exchanged for baht to turn over their baht selling central business. Even the local main banks do not hold on to f/x...

here in thailand, the larger money changers buy AND sell currencies. superrich and Vasu in Bangkok have many currencies on hand and as stated can get what you need if the amount is worth their while. I have purchased many currencies form them always at competitive rates

If the OP has a bank account in Thailand or knows someone who has a bank account in Thailand, than why not exchange his bahts for a draft cheque in Canadian dollars and later cash the cheque at his bank in Canada?

But again it depends on what winnie said; if this only involves an irrelevant amount of bahts and the banks won`t entertain him here, than best to take the bahts back to Canada and do the exchange there.

Because the Bank exchange rate to buy the draft would be very poor and the time for the check to clear would be long.

The bank exchange rates for selling in Thailand are the same for TT- DD- and bill, as far as I know.

A draft cheque in the home country takes up to 6 weeks to clear, it most cases sooner. No big deal, unless the OP is so desperate for money that he can`t wait that long?

I would advise against conducting private transactions with money exchange for a multitude of reasons, unless recommended or know the person personally. Otherwise doing so is up to own risk and discretion.

In fact, he has completely disappeared.

Guess he found a solution.
