The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau unveiled a new plan to highlight Thailand as a festival and events hub in Asia.

The TCEB (Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau) has unveiled a new plan to highlight Thailand as Asia’s hub for major events and festivals. The plan notes the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors to improve the odds of winning bids for major international events.

A workshop has also been organized. Known as Thailand’s Strategic Direction for Festivals and Events, the workshop provides an open platform for brainstorming for both MICE and tourism groups.

TCEB’s aim is two-fold: to stimulate the country’s economy and increase international tourism. At the same time, becoming a hub for major international events would further improve Thailand’s positive image and increase international confidence. Such events will also reflect the country’s culture and unique attributes in the arts.

The plan includes three strategies: Win Strategy, Promote Strategy and Develop Strategy.

Under the Win Strategy, TCEB will increase its support for mega events and international festivals to boost revenue and attract international tourists. MICE cities are also encouraged to plan and host their own large-scale events and festivals throughout the year. The bureau is looking for events that span three days and attract over 10,000 participants.

Under the Promote Strategy, TCEB will organize roadshows that highlight Thailand as the premier destination for major events and festivals. Roadshows would take place in key European markets, Asia-pacific countries and Australia.

The Development Strategy will encourage stakeholders to work together, under government policy, to improve public-private partnerships.

The cultural aspects of festivals and mega events are what will help the country find success. Thailand has a rich history and a deep culture with a variety of venues in MICE cities, Bangkok and other parts of the country. Winning bids for such major events will also revive Thailand’s positive image and encourage international tourists to visit the country.

The major events and festivals that the TCEB is currently focused on include creativity and lifestyle, arts and culture, tourism and sports, and entertainment.
