Police officers, transferred after gambling raids, reinstated
THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- THE officers from three police stations given snap transfers following military raids on illicit casinos have been abruptly reinstated after an internal investigation found that they were not at fault.

Military officials had conducted frequent raids on gambling dens located in their precincts.

The men from the Lat Phrao, Bang Khen and Khok Khram police stations were not to blame, Pol Lt General Sriwara Ransibrahmanakul, head of Metropolitan Police, said yesterday.

Gambling dens and gambling activities were entirely different matters, he said without elaborating.

Police "may have not monitored the gambling activities very thoroughly" and were not making an excuse, he said, adding that he would follow the National Council for Peace and Order policy against vice and gambling.

Pol Maj-General Itthiphol Phiriyaphinyo, deputy Metropolitan Police chief, said the searches were actually joint operations by local police and troops.

Police had notified the soldiers before, so the police at those stations were neither responsible for the underground gaming activities nor negligent in their duty to suppress vice and gambling, he added.

no comment.

Yes, of course. How could it be otherwise. Police are not involved in the gambling whatsoever but simply failed to do their job. Nothing wrong here. Back to same same, carry on with everyone.

Better to say nothing than come out with this crap.

Chuwit as Police Chief and the motorbike taxis as officers => within one week, all the places making money on the vice will be identified and published in the newspapers. Then... it's up to the Phu Yai

Police "may have not monitored the gambling activities very thoroughly"

What they really mean is they were not monitored at all. Either paid or ordered by superiors to look the other way and if they were ordered by corrupt superiors to look the other way, you can't really justify punishing them. This is not the Nuremberg trials and no one died or started a war, so, 'just following orders' is a justifiable defense on the part of the officers.

Fascinating, as Mr. Spock would say.

Sorry but I still blame them.

How much real investigation goes on.

Do they get off their <deleted> and look for any criminal activities in their areas.

No lets stop some motorists they are all criminals.

Looks like they stepped on some big toes?

Police "may have not monitored the gambling activities very thoroughly" and were not making an excuse

In other words: Police "may have been negligent" but could not come up with an excuse at the time

interesting

There is a difference between blaming them for what's going on and blaming them for not doing anything about it while it is their duty.

"Police officers"... good grief!

Gamble to your hearts content, and when the chips are down, stall after dialing for help. It tempts me to think of wishing about concrete trucks going out of control.

They are only policemen. Why would anyone expect them to uphold the law?

Wow.

The Junta not as effective at stopping corruption as it would like us to think? Say it ain't so!!!!

so they finally came up with enough money then. Cash is king.

What is a gambling den ? There is what I would call a gambling den 100 metres from where I live. It is a cock fighting pit. Only reason it is there is for gambling. I said to my wife " 'ere I thought it was illegal and the BIbs live only down the road " To which she told me a BIB owns it. Oh well TIT.

Words fail me, so all I can say is TiT.

As for the junta reforming the police or putting an end to corruption, it would seem the junta are not being very successful.. Sort of like their solution to solving the price of lottery tickets.

Oh well, in another 4 to 6 years we will have another coup and yet another charter.

Sorry but I still blame them.

Because someone having a game of cards for a few baht is going to cause a whole lot more hurt than a motorist driving 100mph whilst 4 times over the drink/drive limit.

Welcome back - sit down and listen boys..........Dont you EVER do that again !! (unless we tell you where and when) cheesy.gif

Well they were just working security of course, What the Hell !!!!!

So the military goes out and , what , tries to enforce thai laws and then someone in the corrupt office of the police turns around and says no corruption here.

So really when you think about it, this top cop is laughing in the face of the General. Who is really in charge ?

During the Generals press conferences they should maybe point out these things and ask him , Who is in charge ?

This article should go right next to the one of the cops in Pattaya trying to frame the journalist for drugs. Hand them both to the General .

It is not happening in every country.

Talk about double-speak spin. That's an award front runner.

Police "may have not monitored the gambling activities very thoroughly"

Polioce caught in illicit casinos

Am I missing something here?

When I last looked "Illicit" meant illegal.

The police are supposed to stop illegal activities.

No....I must have it wrong.

you mean it is not the police's job to stop these underground dens and gambling activities??? If it isn't then whose is it?????
