Their is no work permit visa. There are non-b visas and extensions of stay based upon working and a separate work permit.

At this point in time to change the reason for an extension of stay based upon working at immigration is not possible at most offices. You would have to leave the country to get a non-o visa to apply for an extension based upon retirement.

To go from retirement to working would mean leaving the country for a tourist visa or exempt entry to apply for a work permit. Then going out again to apply for a single entry non-b visa after you have a work permit application approval letter.

Based on hat do you do your extensions? Based on on your work or based on being married to a Thai national?

If based on working, it would not change the answer. If based on marriage it should be OK to change.

Went to Immigration (Nakhon Ratchasima) yesterday with my Thai gf for translation - they said that my O visa (extended via work permit) could be converted around 3 weeks before old one expires. Gave me a whole bunch of papers (mostly in Thai of course!). will get them translated.

Have posted another question about 'the letter' we have to get from the embassy or do we?

I actually have a work permit based on a visa extension to my "O" visa issued 5 years ago in the UK.. Does that change your response?

If your on extension of stay and have been on it for 5 years, you haven't been on an O visa for a long time

What was the reason the "O" was issued in the first place ? as it wasn't issued for work one suspects

You don't need anything form your embassy unless you are using the 65k baht Income option. For that you need an income letter from them.

I have absolutely no idea why I was given an O visa - I went to the consulate (I won't say where as I don't want to get anyone into trouble) filled in the standard form and that's what I got..

Then when I got to Thailand after a couple of months I got a job and a work permit and that has continued ever since. (I have never had to do a visa run toget the work permit although I do go back to the UK from time to time).

I'll try to get the papers I was given translated and letyou know what they say.

if your doing 90 days reports in country, and have been for 5 years, its seems you don't have a Non- O visa anymore then, your on extension of stay for employment, which is not a visa

It won't be a "visa conversion", it will be an extension of stay application done for a different reason than before.
