Filipina visiting Thailand

Recommended Posts

My Filipina girlfriend is visiting me in Thailand from mid-April until mid-September - at least that is the plan.

I believe she can apply in the Philippines for a 90 day tourist visa that in practice would allow her automatic 60 days stay then requiring her to apply for an extension for the additional 30 days. I understand there is an option for a double or triple entry visa that would allow her to leave the country and re-enter thus enabling the full five months. Is this possible? If not, what are the alternatives?

In addition, she has no income of her own and it is my intention to sponsor her for the duration. I am prepared to get what paperwork would be necessary to show that I am her sponsor, even if that means getting a lawyer to draft me an appropriate letter. Would this be acceptable to Immigration on her arrival?

Thank you to those who give me time and effort.

You are aware that single females are subject to immigration check inside the Philippines and without good reason for travel can be turned back? She is actually likely to have more trouble there than Thailand unless she has a record of travel in her passport.

As said the problem will be her leaving the Philippines not entering here.

Even getting a single entry tourist visa in Manila will hot be easy.

You can do an affidavit of support at the Philipine embassy that may help. http://bangkokpe.dfa.gov.ph/index.php/consular-office/services/notarial-services/affidavit-of-support

This. ^^

Many anecdotal reports of young unaccompanied Filipinas not being allowed to leave their own country.

Thank you for the reply,

I was not aware of the inherent problem of Filipinas leaving Philippines but if she applies for a visa and is granted one, she won't be turned back will she?

Would it make any difference if I went there and brought her back with me?

Yes she can easily be turned back regardless of visa status. Most people do resort to personal escort and most often that works - but even that can fail if they doubt your motives. People are often tricked into leaving to perform legal jobs that turn into illegal activities when they arrive in foreign country and they have no escape. Government takes it very seriously and much cheaper for them to prevent travel than to take actions later (which happens often anyhow). Philippines is a marriage country so if not of the same name travel together does not count for as much as one might expect..
