Is there a dedicated diabetic clinic in Pattaya or if not which would be the best hospital for a check up be?

I am going to stay in Pattaya for 8 months ( maybe longer or for ever if I have done my financial sums correct ) and reckon I can get possibly 3 months worth of meds before I come out ( 31 October ) so would like a check up round about end of January then will obviously have to buy medication but the check up should provide the doctor with information as whether to increase or decrease dosage etc.

Will be grateful for any info.

I have been an insulin dependant diabetic for over 20 years. For the past 4 years I have been resident in Thailand, and was coming and going here for many years before that.

To cut a long story short, in my opinion there is no dedicated diabetic clinics in Pattaya that will provide the sort of service you need. What the hospitals tend to do is have a 'generalist" who also doubles up as their diabetic consultant. This even goes for the high priced Bangkok Pattaya where the consultant did not even think to order an hbalc blood test, which is now standard and the most accurate historical record for your blood sugar levels.

This lack of speciality even applies to Samitevej hospital in BKK where there was a similar lack of expertise.

The solution, for me, is Bumrungrad hospiutal in BKK where they have a number of world class dedicated specialists who are completely up to date with the latest diabetic issues and treatment and speak very good English. They are also cheaper than Bangkok Pattataya.

Other TV members will also tell you about other good diabetic clinics in Bangkok.

Bangkok is only a 2 hour bus ride away, and as you only visit a doctor 3 or 4 times a year it's no big deal to travel there. These days I take my family and I to Bangkok for ALL medical teatment.

With regards to the purchase of insulin and other drugs - it is much cheaper to buy from a pharmacy than have it prescribed at the hospital. Just get the list from the doctor and buy outside. For diabetics this is essential as you will be buying these for the rest of your life. (You do not need any prescription to buy)

A very good place to go in Pattatay for drugs is Fascino Pharmacy on Pattaya Nua . Left side going towards beach, just past 3rd road traffic lights. It is a big place with its own car park. They stock everything, including diabetic test meters and all kinds of medical equipmnent. What they don't have in stock they can order. I have found them cheaper than Bangkok pharmacies, and eveything is on a computer so you know you are not being charged inflated 'farang' prices. You can buy a discount card for abou 200 baht which will get you 5% off all purchases.

Goo luck, and pm me if you need any further info.

one of my good friends goes to BNH Hospital in BKK and swears by them (for diabetes) they have a dedicated clinic. oh BNH Hospital = Bangkok Nursing Home Hospital

They do. I have used them. They are VEEERY BUSY - I always waited for hours after my appoinment time to see the Doc.

IMO it's easier to get to, about the same price, and a far more efficient service available at Bungrumrad - but I wouldn't knock BNH - they're OK.
