Muhendis
I take whatever the Met. office says with a pinch of salt (seaweed?). The only indicator I use is satellite radar and visual imagery. You can find that at http://www.wunderground.com/wundermap/ I do keep a weather eye on the fir cones and my little bit of seaweed outside the back door, but I tend to ignore the likes of Michael Fish and other professionals.

Commerce
"The 18 DDPM provincial offices will be on standby to dispatch a rescue team to help those in need or call a 24 hour-hotline at 1784." Vogele123
It is definitely "Brewing" we started to get those heave black clouds yesterday afternoon and then the sudden ferocious winds (SW CM) - you can feel the static in the air here in the early afternoon. Batten down the hatches as when it arrives it can be pretty nasty - I have had huge ten year old trees just ripped out of the ground in some of the winds we get here over the years, the hail can be quite bad if you are out in it but up to now (touch wood has never damaged our house)
sean in udon
Seems like the new guy, recently transferred from TAT, has been put in charge of press releases. Must have got his knuckles rapped 'cos yesterday it was tropical storms, so downgraded to something a little more realistic today.

tweezer
do these people ever look out a window Is that considered a high tech method for predicting weather several days in advance in your country? BANGKOK, 5 March 2015 (NNT)-The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued warnings for people in 40 provinces against a tropical storm which is likely to take place during March 5-10 Agree. I wish TV had a downvote button for comments like that.

cancan70
The last time I checked my knowledge of weather reporting, a high pressure is what you have when you have good weather. Is there anyone in this country know what they are talking about?

Gonsalviz
Nothing but sensationalist hype. They make it sound like a national emergency when it's just a bit of possible windy rain (which would be welcomed). Rescue units on standby as thunderstorms about to affect 40 provinces... coordinated rescue efforts... thunder and hail storms... emergency situations at any time... brace for gusty winds and heavy rains... urged to remove any signs and placards which are vulnerable to wind damage... rescue team to help those in need or call a 24 hour-hotline OMG! Run for your lives! (someone's trying to justify their monthly paycheck) ;-) Apparently you don't live in Isan.

They are localized , pretty much come out of nowhere, common during the hot season, all over in less than 30 minutes with 10 minutes of trees and palms bending over, heavy rain, hail stones and possible building damage if you are unlucky. You might be 10 miles from one of these storms and unaware anything has happened.

JoeLing
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) will surecome up with some brilliant ideas on preventing this looming disaster.Within this region of the world it seams a fairly well educated suggestionand most likely acceptable to the majority of the population, that pointingall the fans and hair driers in the affected provinces towards China, mightblow that storm away.Should people have any doubt on the feasibility of such a project, a bit ofattitude adjustment with clear clarifications will eliminate any opposition.Similar projects have been used in the past with some invisible effectsin flood and haze management programs.Just because we can't see it, doesn't mean it's not there.
