This post may be removed by the forum police who deem it necessary to delete posts critical of farang behavior but not posts criticizing Thais.

I've noticed a number of posts on TV complaining about Thailand and often highly critical of Thai people as a form of veiled racism.
One recent poster commented on Thai drivers insinuating a deficiency in Thai culture, and in his observation, a prevalence of Thai aggression on the road (which of course could be furthest from the truth).
The poster goes on to describe a recent encounter illustrating how he '...was right, period' when honking his horn at another driver who he deemed had done him wrong.
Isn't this behavior at the root of most road rage in the West..the belief that I'm right and you're wrong so I'm going to teach you a lesson.
Thais rarely if ever honk at others unless it's to warn them of an approach (short double-tap). Otherwise it's offensive and an act of aggression. Just as you wouldn't wear your shoes inside a Thai person's home, don't go around honking at other drivers.
Other posts on TV go on and on whining about corruption in Thailand and behavior of Thai people. One recent post even had the audacity to question -- cynically, the popularity of cycling among Thais.
Long story short, stop complaining. You're a guest in Thailand so act like one.
You enjoy a low cost of living amid one of the most welcoming cultures in the world, who by and large, treat many of you (farang) better than you deserve to be treated.
Don't presume your way is right way and entitling you to behave just as you would at home.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us, what will your 18th post be about?

dude slow down on those viagra's your taking, and maybe someone can suggest somewhere to do anger management classes

It's true I am constantly amazed how critical people are of Thailand. It has faults but so does everywhere and overall I find Thailand has less faults than other places. Why would you stay in Thailand if you don't like it.

He's right. Farangs come here and start telling everyone how to behave, what opinions they can have, how they should drive, what modes of transport they can be critical of...

There's three effs in ... off,

I started a similar thread a couple of years back and some of the responses pointed to an incredibly shallow gene pool - I think my favorite was 'Go back to <deleted> Malaysia with the rest of your katoey rejects !' - but I know not to antagonise the junkyard dogs here. I received a very interesting PM telling me exactly what kind of people I was dealing with on TVF and I've elected not to go down that road again. Some of us are self-medicating and others are completely beyond any form of medical help - in short, nothing to lose. You antagonise those people at your peril.

OP, I wish you a great deal more success in your quest, but I fear that you'll only encourage the snipers and attack dogs. Good luck.

behave like a guest...

hope you will still say this after an extended visit of your wifes relatives...
