PM should comes from house members, says PRC Chair

BANGKOK, 28 March 2015 (NNT) – The Political Reform Commission (PRC) of the National Reform Council (NRC) has stated Prime Minister should come from members of the house of representative, with exception to critical situations, says the PRC Chairman.

The PRC Chairman Sombat Thamrongthanyawong has revealed the overview of the commission’s meeting in Pattaya, Chonburi province on 26-27 March 2015, stating that the commission had agreed with the drafting guidelines of the new constitution but had different views in some areas.

In order to gain more trust, he said that the commission believes that the Prime Minister should be selected from the House of Representatives members, except during critical situations. The PRC Chairman also stated that clear instructions and guidelines should be agreed upon, verifying the specific conditions which would allow the Prime Minister to be selected from outside the house members.

He has also added that the commission is not in favor of allowing the public to impeach politicians with severe misconduct, because it may not lead to any practical outcome, as the progress is time consuming, while it could be an opportunity for politicians to influence public opinion prior to the decision.

I think that's a weasel-wordy euphemism for saying "when the military arrive with guns at the doorstep of Government House"......................

honeymoon will end may 22. if the generals were going to force such a dud constitution down the throats of the people, they should have been much cleverer about it and got it finalised well before their honeymoon finishes. As of right now, they have zero chance of this constitution ever being accepted or enacted. these buffoons have shot themselves in their own foot and are going to end up out of power living in a nation operating on the 1997 constitution. hahahaha 2 wasted coups, 3 if you count the one that put abhisit in the pm chair.

Finally, someone speaks with some sense. If only this rule had been effect before 2011, we wouldn't have gotten the political neophyte baby sister of the fugitive felon ex PM Thaksin Shinawatra whom he could completely control and manipulate because she had a constituency of one; her brother. Ms Yingluck was singularly unqualified as a politician and a PM. There is nothing like the experience of running for office and winning the support of the people you want to represent. I would take it a step further and allow only two-term and greater MPs to become PM. That means they have served well and gotten re-elected. Party List candidates should be barred from serving in government because their only constituency is the party bosses. That is not democracy any way you look at it.

I long for the day when Thailand is politically mature enough to have government of the people, by the people, and for the people and the military getting involved is something in the past. So far, in the two coups I've witnessed, nepotism and political rewards haven't been so prevalent as it commonly is with Party Lists. What are the qualifications necessary to be a Party List MP? (rhetorical question as there are no qualifications needed).
