Internet setup for day traders

Featured Replies

If there are any day traders lurking can you let me know what your internet set up is? I'm seeking to move to Thailand (Bangkok or Chiang Mai) and am seeking a reliable internet connection with minimal outages so I can trade with confidence. Do you only use the one type of connection or do you have a backup? I will most likely be renting a condo. I would be happy enough with 3G wifi but from what I've read it can be hit and miss, particularly in condo buildings.

Cheers for any feedback

If in Bangkok get an ADSL from TRUE and a backup 3G from AIS will be good enough.

I use Spread Accounts via Edge (when thats all is available) with zero problem immediate executions.....

I trade with a broker in the US ... not exactly a day trader, but I trade frequently ... using my fairly standard 3BB connection. Trades are always executed more or less instantly. If there are problems with undersea cables, as occasionally happens, that will make any service you have a bit more sluggish.

Although I sometimes have electricity outages, I can't remember the last time my internet connection went down. A few years ago I had some problems, but those turned out to be due to the cable in my condo building. I'm on the 14th floor. Paid our building maintenance man who deals with such things to replace the cable and since then no problems.

CAT premium on cable or fibre. The most transparent and robust line available and I've had the chance to try CAT, TRUE Cable and 3BB (served via a TTT line?) --all at the same time to compare connecting to I.B and CME based brokers.

CAT via DSL is robust too. TRUE Cable goes out in storms because the boxes on the street that feed the internet part don't have battery back ups (in pattaya). Make sure you have a UPS for all your kit including modem. Earthing is a good idea too.

If you're really serious about trading then get your condo as close as possible to the local CAT telecoms tower. You can also get a microwave link from CAT, you building direct to tower, but it's about 30k month.
