Where to buy rolling pin etc for making pies

Featured Replies

So I saw a thread in another section where pies were mentioned, and it's given me a hankering for a mince & cheese pie. Won't be back in NZ til next year so I'm thinking that I might just make some pies myself.

However, I went to Makro in Roiet and they didn't have any premade pastry, so I figured I could make some myself, but they didn't have rolling pins or pie dishes/moulds either.

Otherwise I can improvise but the real stuff would be best.

Any ideas on where I could get these from? (Along with any other baking supplies). Particularly around Roiet or Khon Kaen etc but also maybe locations in Bangkok.

I could never find one, so I used a wine bottle.

A full beer bottle works just as well or order some pies already made and get them delivered.

We found a rolling pin at Tesco. For pie plates we use tin-foil ones from Makro.

.

Yes, I remember now, full does a better job.

Guess that's why, when I could no longer get the crusts thin enough, I had to keep buying more wine.

There is a wholesale baker's supply shop just south of Fairy Plaza on east / KFC side just below the 7-11

I don't think a rolling pin will be the greatest of your problems.

Making pastry in a domestic kitchen here is very challenging. The problem is keeping everything cool enough so the fat doesn't soften too much.

You can put everything in the fridge (ingredients, bowl) beforehand, but then you have a problem with condensation when you take them out of the fridge.

Best, if possible, to put the air-con on for a couple of hours before you start making the pastry, but often even that isn't enough.

Just have look around a large Lotus Tesco they often have rolling pins in stock, that's where we got ours from. Or as suggested by our resident toperscheesy.gifcheesy.gif beer or wine bottles do the job without any problems, provided of course you have not consumed too much falling over juice from the rolling pins prior to their culinary usage.drunk.gif.pagespeed.ce.hfErN2aQEEfKmimwR

I bought one at Villa in Udon. Thai made. 384 Baht, I think. Made from stainless steel but it is very light. Haven't used it yet.

I bought one in Big C , i think it was around the 150 baht price ideal size for Pie, & Pizza bases, look in the kitchen accessory section.
