Chartered flights to be allowed re-entry only after being inspected by destination countries

BANGKOK, 1 April 2015 (NNT)-The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has pointed out that the ICAO ban imposed on chartered airplanes from Thailand is due to an unqualified supervising system in the country, not the standard of operation of aircraft.

DCA Director General Somchai Piputwat said the ICAO judgment has prompted Japan, South Korea and China to ban chartered flights from Thailand. Re-entry will only be permitted after Thai aircraft has passed safety tests in countries of destination.

The Director General affirmed that all Thai chartered flights are operating with high safety standard compatible to international airlines. He said operators of Thai private airlines are willing to have their aircraft inspected and cooperate with the DCA in restoring the credibility of the Thai aviation industry.

The meeting between stakeholders will be held in the afternoon today to find solutions to the problem.

Why don't these pesky foreigners understand the Thai way?

Every other safety-oriented inspection/installation in Thailand, electrical fitting, gas fitting, building construction etc. is performed by unqualified persons so why not aircraft maintenance?

"Chartered flights to be allowed re-entry only after being inspected by destination countries"

"Re-entry will only be permitted after Thai aircraft has passed safety tests in countries of destination."

Now there's a head-scratcher. How does one "inspect" one of these chartered flights waiting to land?

From a safe distance, with binoculars, or by counting the amulets in the cockpit, via Skype ? rolleyes.gif

Pretty obvious to me the recipient countries will need to have a team of maintenance people here in Thailand to inspect and clear the a/c before t/o.This would seem to me to be something of a logistical task considering the number of a/c and their t/o from Airports all over the country.I would hesitate to say that this is a mistake intranslation as is normal and the idea is to inspect all a/c after landing with the idea of making it a safer plane when returning------- Just a 2 pennyworth frm an ex maintenance engineer myself( BOAC andBA) but of course in my day we did not have these problems.

I recall many years on a flight to Yugoslavia (before the civil war), story was Yugoslavia would not let any other countries planes in, so one had to fly with one of their airlines.

On the outbound flight I recall this chap in a dirty European suit coming out the cockpit with tools poking out of his pockets including a large adjustable spanner and going to the back of the plane.

Return flight was delayed over 12 hours, they eventually found us a replacement aircraft as the one that was superposed to be flying us back had been grounded at Manchester by the CAA.

Somehow I do not feel frightened about fling Thai...
