Ladies Beware: Injured-Foot Con Man is Scamming Bangkok Motorists

A “fake-injury” scammer is targeting Bangkok motorists, particularly women, and extorting money from them. Motorists who have been scammed by the man are sharing their stories online, warning other motorists to be on the lookout for the con man.

One woman in the Sukhumvit area was conned into paying the man compensation for a fake injury he claimed he suffered after she “allegedly” ran over his foot in the Ratchathewi district.

The con man was riding on a motorcycle when he knocked on the woman’s window at an intersection. The man complained that she hit his foot with her car, and asked her to step out to see his injury.

Initially, the con man demanded 3,000 baht as compensation for his “injured” foot, but the woman told him to go to a nearby private hospital and offered to pay the bill. The man insisted he was in a hurry and was on his way to see his sick mother. The man quickly lowered his demand to 500 baht after the woman informed him she wasn’t carrying that much cash. The woman reluctantly complied, but not before snapping his photo.

When the woman returned home, she shared the photo on Line Chat and explained what happened. A friend replied with images of the same man, stating that he used the same scheme to extort money from other motorists, and he tends to target women who are traveling alone.

Since sharing the story, several other people have chimed in to share their experiences with the “injured foot” con man. Motorists are warned to be wary of the man, who searches for victims in several locations throughout Bangkok.

Now that his photo is spreading around, hopefully someone will break his foot for real.

And lets accompany the article with a photo of Bangkok taxis.

Must have read about the guy in Malaysia that would put a shoe (flip flop) behind the wheels of parked cars, then smack the side of the car and develop a fake limp.

exit your car, take his picture, stomp his foot, and drive off

Why would you even exit your car at all? I'd angrily wave him off, like I do when kids who try to give me a "free" windscreen cleaning. Then I would drive off.

If stuck in traffic, they could just move onto their next victim.
