message 'do you want to use an existing google account'

When I tried to download adblock for chrome browser on my smart phone, a screen was displayed 'do you want to use an existing google account' or add new or existing'. Something of that effect.

Why is google asking me for my email address and password to download free software. Why do I have to log into google to do this. Are there any technical implications?

thanks

Is your smartphone Android? Have you signed in to app/web store to initiate the download?

If your phone is Android and you haven't logged in, you will need to sign in using google credentials as Android is Google.

As Chicog noted, adblock isn't available via the Google PlayStore for Android, hasn't been since Mar 2013, though it is available through other online 'stores'.

So what were you trying to load, and how were you trying to load it?

Maybe Chrome is set to Sync everything? I find it handy to share bookmarks but I've never really looked at extensions.
