Songkran Travel

I will be travelling from Bangkok to Battambang (Cambodia) either later today or tomorrow. I have been recommended to take taxi or mini van from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet, cross into Cambodia at Poipet. Apparently this should not take longer than 4.5 hours to reach the border. I am not sure that is going to be the case during Songkran. I have been googling for alerts on the state of traffic on the highway to Aranyaprathet without finding recent information. I would really appreciate if anyone has information on the state of traffic heading to Aranyaprathet. in particular if 4.5 hrs from Bangkok is correct. Also what time does the border normally close?

The other option I have is to fly to Siem Reap and bus to Battambang. Both airlines I have checked state that there must be a stay of at least one night in Siem Reap, does require a booked and paid for hotel or if I am staying for a few days in Battambang will that suffice as not doing a visa run?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.
