webfact
EDU UPDATESchool and family collaboration to help parentsThe NationBANGKOK: - In response to the tendency of Thai children to have a lower intelligence quotient and emotional quotient, a joint project initiated by the National Reform Council and based on a school-family collaboration will be made mandatory, a press conference was told yesterday. The project comes after a study last year found that the IQ and EQ of first graders was 93.1, lower than an earlier figure of 94.5.The study was initiated by NRC member Amornwit Nakhonthab, and involves three agencies.Amornwit wants more investment in home and school education under the project.Speaking at a NRC meeting, he said he hoped the endeavour would have the long-term support of the Education Ministry and the NRC.The study showed that many parents lacked ideas on how to rear children properly, resulting in them having a lower IQ and EQ.This is compounded by the inadequacy of many teachers at the elementary level. The project has been jointly organised by public organisations - the Quality Learning Foundation, which Amornwit is an adviser for, the Ramajitti Institute and Rajanukul Institute under the Public Health Ministry. The study was conducted in Chiang Rai, Surin, Ayutthaya and Phuket.Amornwit said the return on investment would be sevenfold, as it would reduce the amount of money the state would have to spend on treatment and behavioural readjustment in the future. He said the state, under the political and educational reforms, should be required to spend more money under this project and be aided by the community, families, |local administrative bodies and the private sector.Source: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/national/School-and-family-collaboration-to-help-parents-30258826.html-- The Nation 2015-04-
NongKhaiKid
Good God ! A project to teach Thais how to be good parents, I hope they don't start classes as the truancy rate will be around 100 %. Anyway aren't we told that culture, Thainess and all the codes that are published are more than enough to be a good citizen ? Education is simple, just do as your government tells you.

Are prisons that expensive to run, a bowl of rice a day and a concrete floor to sleep on can't be that expensive.

Godders
Great idea. Now please drum this into the heads of arrogant head teachers and their staff who clearly believe that the role of parents is to pay up and shut up.
Local Drunk
Great idea. quandow
IQ will only improve with critical thinking. EQ will improve if they quit BEATING these children and working them mercilessly with NO real physical education, no recess time or free lunch time, where learning about human interaction is done. Chao Lao Beach wrote admitting it was the first step - ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!! But hubris and Thainess will get in the way and it will be "business as usual." (in the voice of any school director) "OK students, are you ready to learn critical thinking? Repeat 100 times after me . . ." Heavy sigh . . . Thailand, why can't you wake up? The 20th century is WAY over.
AZBill
There is something very wrong with a society that accepts sending underaged daughters to work as prostitutes so they can send the money home to mom and dad. Can't get my head around that one. Pimping out your kids can't fit into any kind of moral model no matter how poor you are.

Shortly after the second world war decent women in Europe prostituted themselves quite willingly to occupying forces for a tin of corned beef or in many cases for nylons and lipstick Edited April 28, 2015 by soalbundy
