Featured Replies

In an effort to teach new things to the family yesterday I went out a bought the fixings to make a simple Mexican meal.....Tacos/burritos/spanish rice/quesadillas/beans....Guacamole was out as the avacados were like rocks......

We kicked Mom out of the kitchen and everyone was busy and it was a fun time getting everything prepared.....The girls did a good job.....

Then came dinner - everything test tasted good/OK but I was dissappointed......I used to love Mexican food back in the states but after the big expectation and build up - it just tasted blah.....

After years of mostly Thai food I'd lost the taste for Mexican food......

Got me to wondering if anyone else had dishes they'd lost their taste for after years of Thai food....

What else??????

MOVED to "Food"

If you made a good authentic salsa it wouldn't taste blah. Did you dry pan char the jalapenos?

Maybe you can't cook.

Or your gold standard was Taco Bell....

The ingredients for Mexican food aren't very good in Thailand. I still love it when I can get the real thing.

You can - Charlie Browns Suk soi 11 + amazing margaritas.

II had never tried Mexican until I came to Asia. Had an OK meal in a Siem Reap restaurant but my taste buds were dancing when I tried the wet burritos at My Corner up in Prakhonchai. The 'owner' is a Mexican/American.

Personally, I found the Mexican spices etc to be far tastier than most Thai dishes where the one-trick pony of just adding more chillies seems to be the order of the day. I do enjoy a pad krappow 'pet pet' but the variety of flavours in Mexican (and Indian) food appeals to me more.
