10 hours in singapore

Recommended Posts

I have 10 hours to while away between flights. I can get a shuttle bus into the city from the airport, but i have no idea where i could go or what i could do! It will be late afternoon and evening time. I'd like to get some nice street food for dinner, but other than that just wondering if posters have any good tips for me? I'm not averse at all to walking around and taking in the sights, so long as i'm in a good area for doing that.

You don't have to go to Sentosa for the casino. You can go to the one at Marina Bay Sands (MBS). The Marina Bay area is centrally located and offers a vast variety of options. Late afternoon and early evening is a good time to go up to the Sky Park on top of Marina Bay Sands. Up there, you can enjoy the sunset and then the night skyline of the Central Business District (CBD). At 8pm every night, you can enjoy a free laser show in front of the steps of MBS facing the CBD. For local food, there is a food court in MBS or in the many food courts located in the shopping malls in the Marina Bay area.

To go to the Marina Bay area from the airport, just take a MRT train to Tenah Merah station and change to a west bound train to City Hall station. Then take a slow stroll to the bayside, either sub-terrain or above ground.

I hope you will enjoy your time there.

Marina Bay Sands, their shopping center and their casino and if you want some nature add the Cloud forrest at Garden by the bay. Din Tai Fung for food.

Will Cloud forrest be any good after the daylight has finished?

That all sounds like a good plan! I know that i can get a free bus into town, would that get me anywhere near MBS do you think? Years ago i went to Orchard Street i think it was called, from memory it was very long and i was on the eastern end. But i spent most of the time in a bar, and never really saw anything else! However, i'm more culturally atuned beyond beers these days...

Is MBS anywhere near Little India? And is that to be recommended? I like indian food for sure.

Thanks for the info.

The sound and light show in the evening at Gardens by the Bay (7.45pm) is very popular. Instead of the shuttle bus get the train (easier I think than busing it) from the airport to Bayfront for the Casino (need your passport if you intend to gamble) and GBTB. It will take about 45 minutes with a couple of line changes. It's a good walk in the evening from GBTB, over the Helix Bridge and along the river until you get to Clarke Quay where you can have a drink or something to eat (not cheap).

From Clarke Quay MRT it is 2 stops to Little India MRT. You can walk along Racecourse Road through Little India to Mustafa shopping centre which is a real rabbit warren, worth a look, open 24/7 if you have enough time. Farrer Park MRT is near by so you can get back to the airport from there with a couple of changes or walk to Lavender MRT if you have the energy. Last MRT trains are around 11.30 so any later and a taxi will cost you about $25. Look up the locations on Google maps to see the distances and print your directions to get your bearings. If you're not a walker then use the MRT more but walking along the river area is pretty good at night now with all the development that has occurred in recent years and walking either side of the river is fine.

Not really. They close at 9pm.

My favorite museum in sin is the asian civilisation museum next clarke quay. Absolutely great museum. So easy to mix culture and nightlife with few steps.

There is a free bus tour coming out of the airport but I do not know whether you are allowed to get off it in town. If you want to re-visit Orchard Road again, you can change train at City Hall station for a north bound MRT train to Orchard station (3 stations away). You can then take a walk along Orchard Rd back towards MBS. Along the way you will reach Dhoby Ghout station (2 stations from Orchard station). At Dhoby Ghout station, you can take a train on the North-East line to go to Little India for your curry (lots of Indian restaurants between Little India and Farrer Park stations). After your curry, you can then take the reverse route back to MBS or take a taxi from Little India. Its just a short ride.
