Why can't I send this 8gb VLC file to my 16gb USB stick?

I have a TV series that I've downloaded as a 8gb VLC file, but when I try and transfer it to a 16gb USB stick I get the message that there's not enough space on the stick, which is empty. Why?

The stick is formatted as one of the FAT formats which have a max file size of <4GB.

Re-format as NTFS and it will work.

If the drive is formatted as fat32, the max single file size is 4GB. Unzip the single file first and copy the individual files.

It's OK. I Googled my question and got the answer. I reformatted the stick.
