I went to Samui immigration yesterday for my retirement extension.

For the first time they asked me for a "statement" from the bank in addition to the bank letter and copy and original of bank passbook.

This is a new requirement as one month ago my friend was not asked for this.

The statement is just a printout of the last three or six months (I got six) and therefore shows exactly the same information as the passbook and IMO is totally redundant, but when I pointed this out the reaction was "if you want one year visa you get statement"

Chaweng - Nathon - Chaweng - Nathon - Chaweng is not fun.

So a heads up to your retirees on Samui, get that statement!

My wife has had to do this for the last two years. The first time we went to SCB in Nathon and this was no issue. Not sure what other banks do. Bird man just asked and we said OK seems no point to question he always has the upper hand.

One point is whether people need an exit / re-entry visa/ permit (or what ever the correct term is to the correction police coffee1.gif ). To leave and re-enter Thailand, this adds to the "normal" 1900 baht...

You don't have to do this at renewal time, but if one decides to leave Thailand it can be done just before... I believe it has to be done at the local office.... wink.png

Heaven forbid that people be given correct information and the right terms.

You don't need anything to exit the country and it's not a visa, so by process of elimination we're left with a "re-entry permit."

Not completely.

Para 6 refers specifically to "on line" statements, I was aked for and a provided computer printout provided by my branch.

Regardless, a copy of "on line" or bank generated statement cannot show anything not displayed in the bank book, hence it is redundant.

The salient point is that yet again they have introduced a requirement that was not previously needed. in recent months these have been the Google earth map, which must have the GPS co-ordinates (as if they are going to have to load the GPS into their vehicles to find the address) and the house rental agreement. At least the latter was posted in immigration office so if you saw that during a 90 day report you were forewarned. The GPS map was not , this was spread by word of mouth.

Para 5 must only apply if using income from your home country as part of the retirement extension funding, if using only Thai Baht in Thai bank it would not be needed.

For many ex-pats, not just retirees, the problem lies in the almost constant introduction of new requirements which we only find out about by word of mouth, postings on TV, or very occasionally from sources like Samui Times or, as in this case, being told while applying, resulting in my Chaweng - Immigration - Chaweng - Immigration - Chaweng yomp.

BTW this is, I belive, the first time Samui Times have issued such a list of requirements. This would be extremely useful but it has to be accurate e.g. Para 5 not applicable to all applicants and, of course, current.

Judging from posts about other immigration offices, Samui is not unique in this.

I think we would all like a situation where we can satisfy the requirements for visas or extensions, just make clear what those requirements are and disseminate the information in some public forum.

Too much to ask?

It appears so.

I did miss that post Rooo, it shows that the information is out there, it's a matter of checking all posts relating to your own needs.

As this was posted on 10th May I could have saved myself some grief.

Cest la vie.
