ttthailand
Last Sunday walking street was packed with Chinese tourists, I mean really packed ! You could hardly walk. The bars however along the street were nearly empty. Even the bars that have chairs facing the street where you can sit and watch the people go by were empty. These seats are always full ! I was a little shocked by the sharp contrast between the street and the bars and the number of people. If this is any indication of the future times will be getting ruff.... Robert24
tourist numbers are up but as people noted they come from different countries with different interests. It's obvious which country has the biggest growth potential for Thailand. And if you have a business that caters to them, you will do well. jesimps
From my observations: European & American tourist numbers - down, hence the quiet bars, Walking St etc. Russian tourist numbers - down. Chinese and Thai tourist numbers - hefty increase. All told, quieter in the bars, quite busy in the cheaper hotels/resorts and tourist areas. This is just a personal observation from a not so very observant person living in Pattaya.

h90
In Khanom my wife tells so many farangs are here......I don't believe it.....A few days later a Thai friend need a hotel and everything is full. I think there is a shift in the destinations. The overdeveloped loose. Or don't increase at the same rate at the room numbers. But I might be wrong..... If memory serves me rite and it might not. There is only one hotel in Khanom and some resorts. Nice beach great for a quiet get away. It has been a while 6 years and things may have changed. I remember the owner of one more beer telling me at the time there was about 25 farongs living in the area. Well....yes one big hotel in the German Bunker design and the others which I wrongly called hotels are resorts with bungalows, guest houses, etc.. Now there are many.....I think even need your second hand when counting them To be serious: there are many new one, but still very few considering the size of the beach......And mostly small resorts. But it is picking up. My wife told she saw on one day 20 Farangs......Even I believe the number is exaggerated, if half is true it is a lot. mango66
You were on the wrong places: Stay in the morning at 9am ( you propably well sleep with your GF ) you will see hordes of Chinese bodies loaded to Buses; and you will see more on the evening - you will see the russians in 7-11; This are the new wealthy tourists which pushing up the numbers and killing the revenue !! mango66
It's definitely quieter in Chiang Mai at the moment Compared to maybe 2 months ago, but compared to the same time last year? not at all. Just remember it is low season now. if you want book your hotel and bargain for low price, hotel is always full as High season ! That is Thai style ! some weeks ago, we were in some resort in KPG, for 2 of 3 nights we were the only guests , even the owner were there - went to home town; Just some Burmese took care the property; For next 3 days we were in another resort - completely same, but the Thai relativ asked us, why we are coming now ???? NeverSure
We went down to have lunch just south of that big ugly hotel Ambassador city Jomtein and I counted 10 tour buses in a line heading into Pattaya. Tourist of a different kind and Pattaya will need to adapt. Time to build that casino. Casinos are immoral, dontcha see. Gotta stay with the upscale sleazy hookers and ladyboys for Thailand's tourist image.

Pai used to have one 7/11 now they have 5. It is a great area to just get away in for some peace and relaxation. We really enjoyed it. The wife's daughter and her family lived in Nakhon Si Thammarat. We would always spend a week in Khanom and the daughter and her family would spend the weekend. They now live here in Chiang Mai so we don't get down there any more. Edit I just read the other day where Thailand has had 1,000,000 tourists in the first part of May. Edited May 16, 2015 by northernjohn
Nielsk
Up 23% was announced recently for the first quarter....Maybe a better quality tourist..... Pattaya businesses are reaching out harder to attract people so maybe the cheap charlie sexpests are slithering away..... Yeah, up 23 %. Chinese Tour Buses that is, packed with high quality tourists from China. - European "sexpests" may have realized, that it is no longer necessary to fly halfway around the globe for some "erotic entertainment", since eastern Europe is so close and the entertainment-fees are about the same. Let's make no mistake: Pattaya stands and falls with " erotic entertainment". True quality tourists do NOT vacation in Pattaya, It's like as if the east coast elite of the US would select the South Bronx as their favorite holiday destination. Cheers. "True quality tourists do NOT vacation in Pattaya" What do You know about quality tourists ?? I am not sure You are the right person to judge on that subject.. phuketlive
A friend who has hotels in patong said 60% down compared to last year in revenue. No russians, bad high season and low season started even before may... Low euro and australian dollar will not help. Went to big c, full of chinese so next high season should be bad after a very difficult low season... Should see many businesses for sale soon, some rents are so ridiculous here to make decent money out of it. And prices went up too in phuket, 250 baths for a heineken in a night club... Good luck guys, less customers but they rise the prices... Great move lol.

Thongkorn
I dont think the tourists are avoiding Thailand I just think there habits have changed, There are more package tours, They come in Groups go out in groups and are shepherded about in groups. The big hotels, Tour operators, and the reps, make money, the reps are obviously taking the Groups to where they get a reward, back hander, Indian , chinease, Korean, do not sit in Bars like western men, Walking street is full the same as Phuket, but nobody are in the Bars and clubs, the smaller businesses are not making money which is filtering down to the Street sellers. So in the Thai wisdom of things is to put prices up, not down, which also has an affect on Tourist. about 5 years ago friends of mine where bailing out of Thailand for Vietnam, Cambodia where Westerners seem to be made more at home with easy Visa s and options to buying Land . LuckyLew
lot of tourist arrivals for sure lot of larger tour groups, not the free spending ones who are out and about they tend to go in herds and only visit places where their tour bus stops Saw a heck of a lot of tour buses at Baiyoke Sky tower the other day, all their for lunch Dozens of them, but all the malls around Sky Tower were nearly empty, guessing it was a prepaid meal as part of their tour, sure not here to do any discount shopping
mercman24
totaly agree with it being quiet, and those "holier than though" clowns on here, shut it ok. it has been quiet even before christmas. and even the "sexpats" as you will call them are ALL CHEAP CHARLIES just ask the girls,- they sit in the bars i frequent all afternoon/nights clutching a bottle of LEO or CHANG.and never buy a "lady drink" drink, just ogle the girls, some ladies exist only on "lady drinks" they are not all "on the game" . i know a friend in cowboy who in 3 days had not had one lady drink. so no money for 3 days. HLover
"I had a friend in cowboy" -Is this place an excellent location choice to find friends in with common interests? I could use someone like her to tell me such fascinating stories of the number of drinks she did or did not get bought for her. It would be truly rewarding to be thought of as a LDOP vs a Cheap Charlie in such a woman's mind. Edited May 17, 2015 by HLover
