Schools to avoid

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if there is an actual list of schools to avoid in Thailand? Does something like this exist? Other than gossip it seems impossible to know whether a school is legitimate.

Well...sort of...but I'm no expert...

What if it was a paid forum and members posted anonymously? Would that go under the radar? I feel like something like this must exist.

It would only be safe it was a site based out of another country. There area a few if you google them, and some list Thai schools.

The best thing that you can do is ask on forums about a specific school and if people have first hand experience, have them PM you.

ajarn forums are definitely more active than here so you might get more feedback.

However, many complaints people make against a school are because they themselves failed there. I have worked for so many different schools and have had both good and bad experiences. Some people take the bad and stay there. I have worked at schools where people quit or stopped working hard because there wasn't a library, or they had to have meetings once a month.

You have to be selective when listening to people's complaints.

Also stated above it is 100% against the rules of any forum in Thailand to name and shame schools. Nobody wants to get sued over defamation.

The forum is liable if it leaves a post up that violates Thai law and that includes defamation and libel. The forum would also be required to turn over any and all information about the poster that is available.

Some years back there was another forum that was for teachers and it took on one of the larger schools and was eventually shut down.

If you have an interview, it's a good idea to try and talk to some of the farang staff and get a better feel for the school.

I'm going to close this thread, incase members decide to post which schools are on their own "blacklist" after just reading the OP & not the replies :)
