Chiang Mai TR visa extension report: took 70mins, turned up at 8:55am

Featured Replies

Putting aside the fact that some particular advice here in a recent thread is that you should be dress to the nines when attending Immigration and I turned up in flipflops, shorts and a t-shirt , went to get a 30 day extension of my TR visa yesterday at Chiang Mai.

I turned up at 8:55am, it took exactly 70 mins. Was back in my apartment by 10:15am (10 min Tuk-Tuk ride away.)

The only mild drama was asking for a number; I was asked if I had the pre-opening number (which I didn't,) had to explaine that I'd only just arrived, eventually got number 18.

Now 70 mins isn't always the case, last time it took 2 hours, time before it took 1:35 mins, but I thought I'd bring it up in terms of the advice given here that you should turn up to immigration in Chiang Mai as early as 7am to get out before lunch, becaue you don't have to.

That may be the case with non-Immi O/B, or ED visas, which presumably take longer to process, but it's not with extensions of tourist visas. Did the whole 7am thing years ago, all you really do is sit around with an early number until getting the next number when the place properly opens.

Hopefully words of advice for anyone with a TR visa looking for an extension.

This is the low season try that during Dec. or Jan.

This applies only to Chiangmai. Other places about 20-30 minutes.Best time mid week afternoons
