Cranberry juice is widely available in the supermarkets. Not sure where you are located but it is certainly readily available in Phuket. It is quite expensive though!

In Phuket

The Deli in Patong

Phrom Phan Supermarket (The Johney Walker store) Choa Fa Rd. West

The Market Place By TOPS in Central Festival Phuket.

TOPS in Robinson's

I don't know BKK well but if you can find a TOPS or a Marketplace give it a go

They have Ocean Spray and a no-name brand 'Lingo'. The Lingo brand is a little bit cheeper but tastes just as good.

Did you find Cranberry juice worked? Have been told that it makes it worse although others say you must drink it all the time not just when you have UTIs to have an effect. Am currently drinking actimel and taking Acidophilus tablets to combat the antibiotics, plus Vit C (low acidic) and keeping fingers crossed! UK doctors totally useless at sorting it out.

Cranberry Juice works for me every time that i have cystitis. Have just drunk 2 litres of the stuff today and feel much better, I always keep a bottle in the fridge "just in case".

Real cranberry juce can be hard to find (even outside of Thailand). Most Cranberry Juice Cocktail (or sometimes even "Juice drink") are less than 1/3rd actual juice (and even then some of that might be cheap apple or grape juice). Be sure to read the label, if you can.

Thank you to everyone for replying and the additional information. :o

I did find some products that contained cranberry juice but it was only a small quantity and possibly even negative when the other fruit / berry additives are taken out.

I,ve googled the Actimel and found several reviews that appear to be genuine and not just a Danone promotion on the following url.

http://www.ciao.co.uk/Danone_Actimel_Yogurt_Drink__5181595

Lots of other information is also on the word " actimel " googled to look at if anyone else is interested.

I will certainly give it a trial and see if it does me any good as it is more readily available in Thailand.

Incidently as it is a yogurt based by product, could the ordinary stuff be effective also ?

I really don,t want to take antibiotics as they lower resistance in future times when it is really needed.

Also of course the effects of taking to much on the vital organs isn,t good.

This actimel along with cranberry are a more healthier alternative, as my doctor would tell me.

Thanks again everyone for your much appreciated imput

There are some probiotic yoghurts available rather than drinks or Yakult is another type, probiotic being the main thing.

Dislike taking antibiotics but got to the stage where they are the only things that work. Just come off 3 month low dose course which doctor says should clear out bad bacteria which they cannot or will not identify but we will see.

Find this a useful forum for anyone with this problem http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/mb/cobf.

Was quite shocked at the amount of women suffering but none getting any help other than antibiotics.

Available at Foodland, Carre Four, Tops and Lotus outlets but stock does seem to ebb and flow. Also found at Friendship Market here in Pattaya.

Yes: available at Friendship supermarket Pattaya: recently on special offer: 105 baht reduced from 149 baht for a quart.

The Thais say Roselle juice does the same, don't know if it's true.

I suffered from chronic and recurrent cystitis for years. Finally had to go one macrodantin prophylaxis. Macrodantin is a bacteriostatic rather than bacteriocidal drug and for UTI prophylaxis you take a low dose once daily, usually at night. Ask your doctors about it. That plus a high fluid intake keeps most women infection free.

And, as you have no doubt been told, you need to be sure to pee immediately after sex to wash any bacteria out of the urethra.

I have found it hard to find juice that is not loaded with sugar. I do see good quality Cranberry extract sold at GNC and other pharmacies. Kinda pricey. Might make sense to buy it on ebay and have someone ship it to you registered Airmail.

Cranberry is fairly unique in that it makes the surface of the bladder slippery to the crystals that can form. In general drinking lots of liquid helps because it dilutes the crystals and makes it harder for them to form.

In addition the CB causes a more urinary acidic environment which also prevents formation of crystals.

Good luck!!!!
