Government pleads for peace and order in the country



BANGKOK: -- The government today pleaded for peace and order in the country after several groups of people have surfaced to either admire or attack the tough police action taken against student activists' defiance of the military junta's order banning political gathering.

Government deputy spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Monday that any pattern of movement that came out currently to support or oppose the police action would have impact on the country’s image as a whole.

He said trade, investment and confidence of investors would be all affected by any movement coming out now.

He said movement by some certain group is obvious and violates the law, adding they will be dealt with by laws.

But he would like rival groups to stay put and refrain from attacking another group for the sake of peace and order in the country.

The deputy spokesman said the most valuable thing the country wants now is peace and order.

The people want to see peace and live with happiness, he said and asked that they rest confidence in the government to achieve national reforms that are determined to resolve all indifferences and conflicts which in the past had hurt the country badly, and to bring democracy back again.

The arrest of 14 student activists by police and the sending of them to prison went viral in the social network with many admiring the tough action, and some questioning the motive of these students.

This seems like perhaps the beginning of the end for the junta government. Increasing public disgust at the injustice of these arrests will perhaps grow, leading to further public protest and further arrests. Its clear now the government has lost the once solidly yellow academic community, both students and professors; and the business community is increasingly dismayed by the poor economy. What next for Thailand?

Looks like the adjustment of lottery ticket prices didn't get them what they want. Try another stunt!

The people running this government are so incredibly dense. Their pleas should be directed at themselves as they are the ones causing the disruptions and making the country look bad.

Kinda reminds me of "The Mouse That Roared."

If they had merely ignored the students, this wouldn't have become such an issue. Instead, they tipped their hand and showed how afraid they are of simple little demonstrations. And, even if the demonstrations HAD started to grow and gain support, isn't that really what the people want, a government that represents the majority?

Either way, the junta is screwed. This is become clearer every day.

Dumber than a bag of hair. Just yesterday read article here with sentence more or less "coup led to end of political conflict". As if.... And whacky idea that if there is a law, then it must be on side of right: "He said movement by some certain group is obvious and violates the law, adding they will be dealt with by laws.". There is the saying that seems apt here: "If you want peace, work for justice". Those in power are just to thick to believe Thai people are not all buying their "we are just here to restore peace and order" pablum. They know what they are there for, and who they serve (it isn't the people, in case you missed that).

We better invite either the late Lee Kuan Yew or Xi Jin Ping of China to come and take care of these little things for the General. Thais do not seem to have the ability to deal with such human behaviors, do they? There is an old Chinese proverb "kill the chicken to teach the monkeys". Follow what the Chinese proverbs teach see how fast the monkeys will become well behaved. They key here is to get rid of the right chicken, not just any chicken. He does not live in Siam at the moment, but many government officials and Police officials know exactly where he lives and pay homage to him regularly to obtain their cash allowances.

I concluded a Post yesterday regarding the incarceration of these students, with the following and I quote:

I fully expect to see the comments coming on about them tracking the backers to the pro Government groups and to take them in for discussion.......

The most valuable thing the country wants his what the people want, and that is what you are denying them: freedom of speech.
