PM urges farmers to utilise water to its most valuable use

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday urged economic use of water for farming while pledging that his government would do the best to resolve drought on a sustainable basis.

The call for farmers to utilise the resource to its most valuable use came as drought remained critical although artificial rain making proved to successfully bring rainfalls in many drought stricken areas. Some areas were also affected by floodings.

But before calling for economic use of water by farmers and the people, the prime minister turned his finger on the media again for running unconstructive news instead of farmers hardship.

He said “reporters usually start their reports with quarrels between farmers fighting for water instead of their hardships from drought. Do you really know who is being affected and who is not? Or running stories about tap water shortage in the capital which is not so. If you don’t really have the facts, why do you write them? “

He went on saying what he would like to see the media write is rather that the country is facing drought and the government is doing its best in trying to solve the problem.

He then asked the media for help to publicise to the public in economic use of water, so that all could get through the situation together.

“Wouldn’t that helps matter improve,” he asked.

Meanwhile the governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) Mr Sunchai Kamnoonset said that more water is flowing into the small dams that EGAT is in charge of.

However, he said, large reservoirs, such as the Bhumibol and Sirikit dams are still seeing very little increase of water, adding that everyone must continue to use water economically to prevent insufficient water for consumption.

"utilise the resource to its most valuable"

Making distilled spirits is a high-end product far more valuabel than rice.

Lao Khao & Sake come to mind.

I am sure the meaning was lost in translation. Use water most efficiently. But I see your humor.
