Proof of residence for O extension

Featured Replies

A couple questions about 1 year O extension based on retirement. Do I need proof of residence to apply for an extension at Chaeng Wattana? If so can I use the proof of residence form from immigration? Also how many days do I need to apply in person before my extension date is expired? I looked thru many threads on T.V, but found a lot of conflicting info. Thanks in advance.

I can only tell my own experice from last week at Chaengwattana. Yes, you will need proof of residence. Speciffically, you will need a signed copy of your current "lease agreement", a signed copy of the owners ID card, and a signed copy of the owners house book or Chanote Title. You need to make sure their ID has not expired and all the address information matches on all the documents. It was unbelievable how nitpicky they were.

The rest I can't say. Ask our expert Ubonjo.

I live in a Condo which we own and is in my wife's name. So would a copy of my wife's ID card and a signed copy of the house book suffice? Yeah I am just trying to get everything right the first time as it takes 1 whole day to get the extension and multi entry visa. I do not the thought of having to go back for a second day.

You can use the proof of residence from immigration to renew your D.L. so why can't a person use the same to get a Imm O extension?

You could use copies of your wife's house book and ID card. They might also want to see your marriage certificate.

Certificates of residence are issued for a specific use not for immigration itself. They are normally only valid for 30 days.

How many days before my extension expires do I need to apply for another extension based on retirement in person at Chaeng Wattana? Thanks again as always Ubonjoe.

You can apply from 45 days before the date you extensions ends to the date it ends..

Thank you Ubonjoe.

Not sure if this is relevant, however, I went to do my 90 day report (Retirement Visa), done before no issues.

This time they "found out" that the place I live (With a 100% Valid lease) has not been reported (by the owner) as having a foreigner living there. My wife (Thai) did all the paperwork and we fixed up the issue - (several hours). We were fined 800 Baht.... Actually the fine belongs to the owner, pragmatism dictated that we were better to get the problem out of the way, rather than have the Police visit the owner and ...... you can guess the rest.

Just bear in mind that it is becoming increasingly important to dot every "i" and cross every "T". My wife will no longer allow "couchsurfers" to stay with us for a night or two - something we both enjoyed occasionally, due to the fear they put in her and the need to report every foreigner who stays the night. She was visibly distressed after leaving immigration and still is hurt, upset, by the whole incident. I suspect much more was said (In Thai) than I was able to understand.

Just my 2c worth..

Just in case someone reads into it that a bribe or "graft" was paid. THERE WAS NO BRIBE, THE FINE WAS LEGITIMATE AS PRESCRIBED BY THAI LAW.

Well today I went to Chaeng Wattana to extend my Non-Imm O based on retirement. They did need my wife's ID, marriage cert (for what I do not know when applying for a retirement extension?) copies of the house book and took a map to our condo. The only thing that I was told is that next time I come to extend my visa is that they will not accept the money in my USD account to be used for the visa. They want it in a thai baht account. I have many times the needed amount in the USD account, but they want it in a baht account.

I'm interested as to how they know you are married and why this came up?

I have done four extensions on the grounds of retirement at Chaengwattana - on the TM7 form you use for this it does not ask whether you are married or single, and if you just put "retirement" as the reason for the extension, they could not even tell your marriage status. So how did it come up-I'm genuinely curious?

Incidentally, I did my last extension there in January this year, and wasn't asked to produce any documentation of any kind about where I live - not saying this doesn't ever happen, just that it didn't happen to me.

So in this instance your wife is the landlady/owner of the condo where you live.

Hence her settling the fine.

Partington if you read some of the earlier posts in this thread I was advised to take signed copies of my wife's ID card and house book as proof of residence which I have never had to do before. You might get a surprise next extension.

No I do understand this, I'm asking how they knew you had a wife in the first place. What do you do if you have no wife? I don't have one so how could they ask for my wife's ID and a photo of her?

EDIT: Never mind -sorry I understand now, the wife information is to prove your residence not your marriage status. I've got it.

I always take my lease and a True internet bill with my name and address on it when applying for retirement extensions just in case, but never been asked to show them before. Obviously this is changing now, nice to be warned in advance, thanks for the info.

That is perfectly normal and common in all immigration office. Your wife house book is not used as proof of residence (it is perfectly fine for you to live elsewhere), but as a supplemental ID for her.

Also the all capitals list you posted is absolutely common to the vast majority of offices immigration. It has nothing more and nothing else.

The list I posted in capitals was copied and pasted from an excel sheet. Sorry about the way it showed up I tried to attached the file but could not. There were a couple things in it that we still do not have to do at Bangkok Immigration as of yet.

Just to update: on 21st August 2015 a poster reported doing a retirement extension at Chaengwattana within the last two days and did not need any form of proof of residence at all, which has also been my experience for the last four extensions I have done at Chaengwattana, including one in January 2015.

So I have to conclude that what happened to you was not a common occurrence, and must have resulted from some circumstance that was specific to you:

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/850215-retirement-extension-via-monthly-income-at-bangkok-august-2015/

"Completed my annual retirement extension renewal at BKK Chaengwattana Immigration the other day. Nothing especially new or different involved in the process. U.S. Consulate monthly income affidavit accepted without question.

Same documents as always:

Present actual/original passport/departure card

Completed double-sided, single sheet TM.7 with attached 4x6 cm color photo and your phone number handwritten on back side of the form below your signature.

Consulate monthly Income affidavit, not more than 6 months old

100% size photocopy of passport face-data page with your handwritten signature

100% size photocopy of original visa or extension transfer information from previous passport, with your handwritten signature

100% size photocopy of your current/expiring extension, with your handwritten signature

100% size photocopy of your arrival/departure card, with your handwritten signature. (My card always has a blank back side, so I've never been asked for anything other than the front size copy)

1,900 baht retirement extension fee"
