chiangrai
I want to buy myself an impact driver but cant find one. I've cheched homepro but they only have drill drivers. Does anyone know where I should buy one. I see them on ebay but I am worried about costoms. There are lots of makita impact drivers with no batteries or chargers. Can they be bought here if I order "body only". I'm looking for a brushless model with high tork but I don't mind if it's electric or battery. What would you do. bankruatsteve
Are you talking about a drill or something else? If drill, there are many brands of "hammer drill" available. Post a photo of what you want.

chiangrai
What I'm looling for is an "Impact Driver" not to be confused with a "Drill Driver" or an "Impact Drill" They look quite similar but the "Impact Driver" has more torque. I have never seen one in Thailand.

KhunBENQ
If one of these products would fit your need, it would be available in Thailand: http://makitathailand.com/impactdrivers http://makitathailand.com/CORDLESSIMPACTDRIVER144VBATTERY_CHA
chiangrai
Yes,KhunBENQ this is exactly what I'm looking for. I didn't think of going to the brand name sites. Thanks a lot,I will try another few brands to see if they have Thai websites too.
kamalabob2
THAILAND Thai Seng Trading (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Address 493/4 Rama 3 Road, Bangklo, , Bangkloleam, Bangkok 10120 Thailand Phone +66-2291-8408/8409 Fax +66-2291-8442/8443
kamalabob2
The actual exclusive importer of all Makita Tools and Maktec Tools to Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia is Thai Seng Trading Company. They in turn sell to five distributors in Thailand. Any retailer including Global House, Thai Watsadu, HomePro, HomeMart then establish agreements with one or more of the distributors. Not every Makita Tool in a catalog printed in Thailand is actually imported to Thailand. The web site makitathailand is not from the official importer, but rather a distributor. There are many stores which can offer lower prices than you might see on that web site. I've bought several Makita PowerTools, Makita Garden Tools for my home from a family owned shop in Buriram. I've also purchased quite a few Maktec Power Tools at the same shop for various family members who work in house construction when they are not growing rice. I see that the Japanese managers and Thai executives of Thai Seng Trading were in Buriram last Thursday to train employees of the same Makita authorized repair center that I get my Makita Tools repaired. Every City in Thailand of any size has at least one "tool shop" that stocks more Makita Tools than most any chain store. Impact Drivers are easy to find from DeWALT, Makita, Milwaukee, Hitachi at the better tool shops. The executives of those brands will work closely with the high volume dealers who also do the repairs of those brands. The real Makita Web site for Thailand does not show the products, but any credible dealer has the printed catalogs. http://www.makita.biz/network/thailand.html
kamalabob2
I bought a couple of Makita Tools in Buriram during a sales promotion and I believe they had Makita Impact Driver readily available. There must be similar shops in other Thailand provinces that carry such a stock. They might be the Authorized Makita Service Point and they have a certificate signed by Mr. Yoshihara Nishiguchi of Thai Seng Trading Company. The same Thailand tool shop might also repair Metabo, Hilti, Milwaukee Tools on a regular basis.
chiangrai
From what I can see the best deal is to buy the "body only" from japan on eBay and buy the batteries and charger here. Aslong as I don't get cought in costoms.
kamalabob2
Most authorized service points for free warranty repairs of a major brand will be more eager to help you if you bought the tool in Thailand. If you buy from a major chain store or from a tool shop that does a high volume in name brand tools you probably will not buy a "copy" tool in Thailand. I have not seen any bargains on lithium ion name brand tool batteries nor have I seen low prices on name brand NiCad batteries or battery chargers in Thailand. I have seen competitive prices on Makita cordless tool sets, Hitachi cordless tool sets and Maktec cordless tool sets in Thailand.
wayned
Ruangsangthai, post #11, will sell to you on line, PM me and I'll send you a contact, I just bought a Makita drill from them and have use them for parts. Tell them what you want and they will tell you what they have in stock, very competitive pricing. KTW in Bangkok also is a good choice, they have an on line catalog and deliver free. I bought an air compressor from them, ordered it on Monday, it was delivered to Nakhon Sawan Province on Friday Morning. www.ktw.co.th
Crossy
Spurred by this thread I bought a DeWalt DCF815, a baby little beastie. For its size it's 'kin amazing, no cam-out of Pozidrive screws, almost no torque in the hand. Came from MegaHome in Rangsit in a kit with two batteries and a torch. Bu99ered if I can remember how much MegaHome also had offerings of various sizes from the other major names, the DeWalt was mid-price of the small units. Pacificperson
My battery operated impact driver is the tool that I use most frequently. I love it.
wayned
I have three battery powered "screwdrivers" and they are great, but not suited for heavy duty jobs. I have farm equipment and I use air driven impact wrenches like the one in post #5 which require a high pressure constant airflow (3.3cfm@90psi) and when the air source is not available - they don't work well with the small portable compressors I use a Klien hand driven impact wrench. If you need help finding any tool, part or building supply product you should contact Ruangsangthi in Buriram. They will do the research and tell you what is available and have competitive pricing and ship immediately vis EMS. You will receive great service from Mr. Pichai and his three native English speaking staff. You can order via email, pay via bank transfer and they will ship immediately via EMS depending on weight. I live in Nakhon Sawan Province and have been using them for some time and am thoroughly pleased with their excellent service. PM me if you want a direct contact to the English speaking store manager.
farmerjo
I would call an impact driver something you can change heads types for different screws, then by holding it in one hand you hit it with a hammer to release the screw. Different countries, different terms.
WitawatWatawit
^^^ ditto, farmerjo. It's what I used for many years to work on the bikes or cars. Never knew anything about these new fangled power things back then. But I like the device Crossy has shown. Might check that one out, if it comes with multiple attachments. kamalabob2
In Buriram I've seen Milwaukee Impact Drivers, Hitachi Koki Impact Drivers, Makita Impact Drivers in stock and available at a family owned builders merchants store. Same store I get my own power tools repaired and that I take my village relatives power tools and brush cutters for repairs. There must be similar tool supply stores that stock and repair proper name brand power tools in other provinces of Thailand. The sort of Thailand store that has a wide range of name brand tools you recognize, an actual repair facility and maybe not spa tubs or window curtains. The store I am more confident is buying a power tool will allow me to test the tool in the repair department prior to handing over my baht. wayned
I would call an impact driver something you can change heads types for different screws, then by holding it in one hand you hit it with a hammer to release the screw. Different countries, different terms. That's exactly what a Klien Impact driver is. Picture Klien Impact Driver.doc However the air driven wrenches such as the one pictured in post #5 are also called "impact wrenches" from where I come from. Instead of the hammer, they use short bursts of high pressure air to apply additional torque. The battery pack screwdrivers do not provide either and , in my mind, they are not impact tools. They are just powered screwdrivers that provide constant speed and torque until a pre determined torque setting is reached.
Crossy
Wayned, have a look at my video, the unit's we are talking about are most definitely impact tools, listen to the noise. My little baby Dewalt makes a real din
richardrb
Try searching for IMPACT WRENCH instead of driver. I found some air driven ones at Lazada and one battery powered one at HomePro - DIrecttoshop. I suspect there are more out there, I didn't try REAL hard since I don't need one right now. I don't know why everyone thought you were looking for a hammer drill but they are very common here with all the concrete used in construction. It seems you are looking for a 1/2 or 3/8 square drive high torque drive like used in Automotive and Motorcycle repair. Good luck. http://www.directtoshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/directtoshop/cordless-impact-wrench-automac-amb18wr-p1019889 CORDLESS IMPACT WRENCH AUTOMAC AMB18WR _ DirectToShop.com by Homepro.html
wayned
Wayned, have a look at my video, the unit's we are talking about are most definitely impact tools, listen to the noise. My little baby Dewalt makes a real din Went back and ran your video with the sound on this time. I agree it does make a noise and thought that they had just incorporated a "din" generator. But. I looked up the specification and it does say that it it a true "impact driver" with 0-3500 impacts per second. My two old B&D's and Hitachi are just screwdrivers. First one I've seen so stand corrected. Be interested in hearing about battery life once you've used it for a while as I have a good source for DEWALT products as posted above - Ruangsangthai in Buriram! They're a reliable distributor and authorized repair center.
Crossy
Wilco Wayne. Not used it much since I got it last week, mostly 'testing'. I'm amazed by the oomph packed by this little chap. It doesn't have a torque limiter so practice is needed with the variable speed trigger or it will quite happily drive a screw right through the work-piece, all without any noticeable strain on the hand It was something of an impulse buy, my old Ryobi drill/driver is on its last legs (even with re-celled batteries) so I was in the market for a replacement and spotted the impact drivers in MegaHome (I'd not seen them before so possibly new arrivals). Crossy
If you don't mind, how much did it cost? Brain fade, I'll check next time I'm in MegaHome, IIRC about 6k. Wifey will have filed the receipt somewhere too, will look when I get home from work. EDIT That was the kit with two batteries, charger and LED torch. EDIT 2 It was 5,990 from MegaHome Rangsit, probably a little cheaper form the specialist stores if you can be bothered / have time.
Pacificperson
One reason that I like mine so much is that it is really good at breaking things lose and backing out screws. Put a little pressure on the driver and pull the trigger. Bang, bang, bang and the thing is on the way out.
