The real reason airport shops want to see your boarding pass

Well I never knew that !

Never buy anything in them as they are a rip off.

Another rip off is thinking you will get all your VAT back at the airport as well, I spent a bit in John Lewis and filled out the forms expecting to get back about 30 quid back at the airport. If you want the cash there and then there is a fee, to have the money back in your account is free, however, what retailers and Global Blue ( who operate the system) dont tell you is how much they charge, from my expected amount I got 12!

Some retailers charge almost the same amount of the VAT refund as administration charges.

Often things are not what they seem.

Never buy anything at Duty Free as they are a rip off? Perhaps you do not consume alcohol. Even at Suvarnabhumi, Duty Free on arrival spirits are far cheaper than buying in the supermarkets, BigC, Makro, whatever.

How much is the rental of these shops inside the Airport?

i.e. are the costs associated with having a shop in the airport any higher than in a high street ?

I for one like the convenience of 'some' of the shops in an airport (especially while in transit) and while these 'tax savings' are not passed on to the customer, is it possible that they are passed on to the Airport in the form of higher rents ?
