Best route from Chaiyaphum to Bangkok

Featured Replies

Travelling to Suvi airport next week. We're west of Chaiyaphum (Nong Buarawe) and wondering if better we go via Korat or SaraBuri. Sometimes maps can be deceiving when mountains, traffic come into play

Whenever I go to that area I always go via Saraburi.

From Nongbuarawe I was thinking head out Chaturat then motorway all the way through Saraburi on to Bangkok

Don't quite understand the alternatives.

Via Korat does not make sense from your location. Its simply a detour.

Going to Bangkok without passing the Saraburi bottleneck? How does that work?

The shortest route goes via #201 down to #2.

#201 was always very busy, lots of trucks and I am not up-to-date about the current construction status.

The alternative that I see is going a detour to the west on #225 and then south on #21.

But I can not comment on the traffic situation on these roads.

I think there is not much to add to the two routes that Gooile suggests.

Going south on #205 to #21 makes more sense indeed.

If someone can confirm that #205 and #21 are more relaxed compared to #201 I would choose this.

As far as I know all the interprovincial busses take the 21 and 205 route.

I can not comment on the 205 but the 21 only starts to get busier the closer you get to Saraburi, before that it's relatively quiet and dual carriageway all the way.

I went to Khon Kaen via Saraburi last week and we were stuck for almost 2 hours in a 10km backup where they are doing road construction. We hit it about 2pm on a Saturday.

We returned to Bangkok Sunday night via Korat and there were no back-ups. We departed KK City about 3pm, through Korat by 6pm. We hit some delays because it was the day of the nationwide bicycle event.

I personally would do 201 and 2 but I doubt there's much in it.

However, watch your speed round Saraburi! There are now at least 2 x static cameras on Highway 2; one is set at 90Km/hr and one at 60 km/hr.
