speedtripler
My guess is that the work was not done by the local police, but rather the equivalent of the Thai FBI. So, the best and the brightest were involved in this. Real "experts". And this is the best they could do. The nation needs to spend billions of dollars revamping and upgrading law enforcement here. Tens of billions. Maybe hundreds of billions. Dollars, not baht. Will it be done? In our lifetimes? You can't upgrade the ingrained culture... All that money would just be stolen by the people in charge... Its not like it hasn't happened every other time in Thai history someone gets cash for a project and it gets evaporated without much/any accountability
tuanku
CCTV security cameras are an integral part of the security operation for both locals and tourists. If so many are not working is this an indication of just how serious authorities are about their responsibility? Will anyone be called to task for their negligence? Stupid question, sorry! the surveillance camera project is the policy of Bangkok governor M.R. Sukhumband Paribatra to ensure safety for people living in Bangkok, adding that it could help the police in tracking criminals, and to curb attempt to commit crimes. elgordo38
What Somyot said: "The police are working non-stop every day. For as long as I'm alive, I'm confident that the culprit will be arrested. Though I will retire soon, my successor will continue working on this case," he said. What Somyot really means: "I've checked out. I can smell the Cambodian casinos calling me." You forgot to quote the following statement. I think it tops your quote. OK lets share. "We don't know if the suspect is still in the country, but I have to assume he is, because we have no information about him leaving," he said. I often wonder if their informal pension stays intact in some shape or form after they retire as some kind of extended benefit maybe 1% of the take. Which is why farang will never get a job in those upper echelons of society because these are jobs that only a Thai can do... A farang would never be able to comprehend the task of being so utterly corrupt

trigpoint
Why am I not surprised! If ever they needed Western policing technic's it was with this case! If there was ever an excuse for 21st Century colonialism; this is it! Thailand loves to brag about how it was never colonised... but they are getting left far behind the rest of the world with that pride and not accepting help from countries with infrastructures that are vastly superior... Maybe never colonised, but they were invaded and conquered by the Japanese in WW2, they seem to have forgotten that, not on the history curriculum at school so it just never happened, ask any Thai about it. I am sure the Japanese would contribute to the investigation if asked.

balo
The suspect escaped probably on the same day , maybe on a train to Malaysia or a flight to China , who knows. The only thing that can save this "investigation" is for the terrorists to step forward and actually claiming responsibility for the bombing. It's one of the big mysteries , why they keep it a secret.

tx22cb
And to think that Thai authorities spent 800 million Baht on 800 GT200 fake bomb detectors .... and no-one was held accountable nor prosecuted. What a laff.Scuze me if i'm missing something here but why on earth would you want a FAKE bomb detector?rijit Google Wiki GT200 - there is an amusing article about Thailand's (mis)adventures with this modern snake oil contraption. Many Army men got rich, though.
