SARABURI: -- Well-known mass communications academic Somkiat Onwimon was seriously injured in a four-car collision in tambon Huai Sai in Saraburi's Nong Khae district yesterday.

Police said the accident was caused when a Toyota Camry sedan travelling in the outbound lane of the Phaholyothin Highway rear-ended a nurse's Honda Civic, resulting in her car being propelled across a road island and crashing into Somkiat's Volvo and another Toyota in the inbound lane at around 11am.

Somkiat, 67, broke his left leg and left wrist and sustained several wounds. He was treated at Saraburi Hospital before being transferred to Bangkok's Vibhavadi Hospital, where his leg was operated on.

Thassanee Sitthiyot, 37, a nurse at Nong Khae Hospital and driver of the Honda, suffered serious injuries and underwent surgery yesterday.

Saksit Thong-eium, 24, the driver of the Toyota Camry, who was only slightly injured, surrendered to police.
