As drought continues, waterworks hedge promises of no water shortages

PATTAYA:--For weeks, area politicians and water-supply officials have assured Pattaya residents that, despite the severe drought, the city would have plenty of water. But with August ending without the usual onset of a heavy rainy season, those same officials are now backing off those promises.

Suthat Nutpan, director of the Provincial Waterworks Authority’s Pattaya office, warned Aug. 27 that if the area does not get a substantial amount of rain soon, the city could see water shortages as soon as mid-September.

The PWA said that, as of Aug. 3, the five main reservoirs feeding water to the city held a combined 12.4 million cu. meters of water. Pattaya’s normal usage rate of 235,000 cu. meters a day is about 20,000 cu. meters a day more than those sources will be able to supply.

Mabprachan Lake, now nearly dry, is facing the biggest crisis, able now to produce 48,000 cu. meters per day. Other sources contributing to Pattaya’s water supply are the Sak Nok Lake with 7,200 cu. meters per day, Nong Klang Dong Lake with cu. meters per day, Banglamung Reservoir at cu. meters per day, and Map Yang Porn Lake at 21,600 cu. meters per day.

Seems like they were banking on rainfall and at present have come up with no solutions no surprises there.Maybe they can do a rain dance or seed clouds but its highly unlikely.

They have done both cloud seeding and rain dancing to no effect...what happens when the 10,000-15,000 +++ condo/ rooms that are near completion come online ?

I suppose as the last resort they could set up a desalination plant, quite pricey though ?

Not much Water is necessary for the new 10.000-15.000 Condo/Rooms, because many Rooms will be empty for a while, or even longer.....

Do these guys double as TAT forecasters. They seem to be on he same wavelength. If it does not rain you can always give the tourists a rain check.

How about a bit of foresight. With the lakes so low, why not send in squadrons of bulldozers to scoop out the beds to increase capacity and to destroy the vegetation that could cause a problem in the coming year or two?

Because TIT and planning for the future is non existant whistling.gif

Rejected on the grounds it makes to much sense or the weather could do a Noah and well bulldozers do not float.

When they are finished everything will be back to normal, because no water needed for construction anymore, and empty rooms don't use water.
