I often criticize when I get problems here, but every now and again I am amazed by just how helpful people can be.

I made another order on Thursday for a delivery from Tesco, mainly the usual things that I order, still living in a fantasy land of hope that they actually might be able to supply the BMP Celery that is always advertised but never in stock.

There are normally 3 different delivery drivers that deliver out my way, they are all a good bunch, really helpful, really friendly.

Two deliveries ago one of the regular guys brought my order and we were talking, I was complaining that despite the local branch selling the French Stick bread, there was no way to order it online, just that foul American sweet sort of barely cooked dough. He agreed and told me that Shoponline does not offer that product.

About 6 days later we had another delivery and all was fine, but again no BMP Celery.

A different driver turned up today with my order and he had 2 printouts, one printout was for the Shoponline goods for the main order, but he had a separate ticket for 64 Baht. They had actually had a message from the driver two deliveries before, and had gone into the main shop and bought two sticks of French bread for me and charged it as a store purchase!!!

I could not believe it!

They will not and cannot take a tip, talk about service eh? I e mailed there Shoponline site tonight letting them know how pleased I was and received an e mail back promising to notify their managers as to the great service they provided, it might seem like a small thing but for someone to have the thought and actually bother to do something knowing that they will not be able to get one satang for their efforts amazes me! Well done Tesco, you have some bloody good staff that need looking after, sadly the lazy cretins at Big C are a sad comparison.

A nice story, good to hear something positive for a change in this site. And it's a good example of the kinds of things that happen every day all over Thailand.

It is good, and it is even better when you can leave feedback for the average guys doing an average job but go out of their way to provide more than average service. So much service here is mediocre at best, it is great when the delivery drivers think out of the box a bit and go that little bit extra, it just makes you happier to shop with them so it has to be good for business.

The other thing that has impressed me is the response from Tesco regarding complaints and praise, I used to just get some automated response from an auto answer E mail reply thing that thanked me for rating their employees.

The last couple of weeks an actual person has responded and promised to relay my thanks to the supervisors of the delivery staff involved.

Their Head of Quality in Thailand actually telephoned me at home to explain the reasons behind the shortfalls, John Christie, the guy responsible for the Thailand operation e mailed me and asked for me to passon constructive thoughts, I even had a few E mails from Trevor Masters their head of ops in the UK commenting about how they will be improving.

I was very impressed in the way that they actually did something about the problems - Maybe they can get Tesco Shoponline to write the code for the Thai Immigration site's 90 Day Report site, it is an utter joke that a 5 year old could better! - There lies the difference, just compare a multinational retailer and the quality of their website where you can order thousands and thousands of items online and have them delivered to you in less than 24 hours, and the Thai Government Website that is incapable of processing a mere few lines of entered text, disgusting!
