Hello,

Since comming to Thailand, I have developed glue ear most probably caused by Rhinitis and/or Nasal Polyps.

I know 2 other people who have developed glue ear while in Thailand. One had polyps the other didn't.

Glue ear, for those who don't know, kinda feels like you are on an airplane all the time and your ears are blocked.

Anyway, it's all about inflamation and mucouse. As time goes by, the polyps may grow.

I went to an ENT doctor in the west who checked me out and gave me a steriod nasal spray and anti-histhamine. Didn't really do much. She said, the exact cause is unknown. But in most cases it is considered to be ALLERGY.

I have tried nasal irrigation and it gives the most relief, but as the root cause is probably allergy, i don't get relief for long.

So my main syptom is glue ear, but that is caused by inflamation of the sinuses and mucouse dripping down to irritate the ear tube.

Anyways, to get to my point, has anyone experienced this in Thailand? I find it strange that I know 2 other people suffering from the same thing in Thailand.

It is thought to be allergy, so does anyone know what the most common allergens might be?

Cheers

I've suffered similar for years; both in the west and here. It's something that's on the increase due to our lifestyles.

For me, the main allergens are;

- the main one, Milk, yes, read on the internet about it, causes over productive mucus glands, blocked nose and nasal drip.

- scented washing powders (and boy are they strong in Thailand).

- and in a smaller way, natural bedding (down etc which harvests House Dust Mite)

It took me a long time to find out what it was but since I have life is much better. Good luck finding what bothers you (consider a diary, it does help!)
