PHUKET: Police expect Chamroen Tipayapongtada, who will be the governor of Phuket as of October 1, to strongly back their efforts to evict a number of Surin Beach clubs and businesses that are allegedly encroached on public land.

“I don’t think it will take long once the new governor takes charge. He was previously a vice governor for the province and use to take very strong stances on issues concerning public land,” said Lt Col Rassada Kleungwong of the Cherng Talay Police. “I believe he will wrap this all up quickly.”

Mr Chamroen, however, was hesitant to make any comment on the matter when speaking with the Phuket Gazette yesterday morning.

One aspect of never having elections is the local mayors get to hang onto their positions, milking them for every drop.

4 or or so kilometers of encroachment on Bang-Tao, 1k on Surin, that's a lot of payola over the last few years.

The OrBoTor at Surin beach is the worst. He sold off the beach and then gets to delay the removing of the encroaching businesses that he is directly paid. If there is anyone who deserves to be in the monkey house more?

Every business along Surin beach should be torn down in keeping with the "no business on King's beach" edict. Let's see if this new governor has the balls. The last one didn't.

It's insulting to see the clubs that should be torn down, owning the beaches in front of them. Putting down mats and umbrellas to claim the space in front of them in direct violation of the rules for offering those services.

I can't wait for the demolition to start.

^ Are they still claiming the beach in front of the businesses? I thought that had stopped last spring.

The Cherng-Telay Or Bor Tor administers both Surin and Bang Tao beaches . Nice little earner.

"Nonetheless, in June last year, Mr Chamroen declared Surin Beach ‘beautiful again’ during an official inspection following the dismantling of illegal beach structures".

He obviously was oblivious to the broken bricks, chunks of concrete, rusting rebar, collapsed sea walls and the black stinking klong that drains onto the beach.

Yep, its beautiful again! Job done. Next.
