Picking up my passport from Vientiane tomorrow at 1:30pm - can I make at flight leaving Udon thani aiport at 5pm?

What's the best way to get to airport?
Is the border crossing any quicker in car vs bus
If it means paying 1000 baht for a taxi I will just get a later flight at 2200

Thanks

Also seems to be a new system at Vientiane

Everything I read before about waiting for a queue number has changed...

Have a fast track tourist visa now - where you wait in line - drop your passport and others bits* then collect and pay for visa the following day

*2 photos 2 copies passport 1 copy of Lao visa and 1 of entry stamp

You could get the international bus from Vientiane bus station to the bus staion in Udon. The bus waits while you process through immi.

Tuk Tuk to airport is 15-20 minutes from arriving bus station about 100 baht. It lets you bypass headache multi hops on different forms of transport and it is 60 baht or similar !

From the border to the Airport is around 20-30 minutes in a car, didn't really notice any taxis there but wasn't really looking, plenty of people around so i'm sure you can find someone to take you

Following the advice of a fellow poster Tomster I arranged a car from the hotel in Vientaine that takes and waits at the consulate and then drives through immigration (separate lane) so no long waiting just get out for stamp/photo back into car unwind the windows so the army lads can look in and then drive straight to the airport. He even got the passport stamped out of Laos while I was in the duty free shop. It is the smoothest way of doing it particularly if you are on a tight schedule. I was at the airport with plenty of time to have a few cold beers before the 5pm flight. Not a cheap option at 2k but if you want an easy stress free experience from hotel via consulate and across immigration through to the airport it may be worth it for some. If you want the driver's details PM me. I have done this twice and he is totally reliable - the last time was coming across back into Thailand Tuesday last week and seeing the crowds queuing at the normal immigration booths made me happy that I had used it. Not having to use multiple forms of transport was ideal for me.. .

Ah man, yeah 2k for the ease of it is probably worth it.

But I just booked the 2200 flight as it went down in price to 400 baht. So no rush now. Will chill out in Udon for a couple hours as imagine airport is pretty small?

Thanks for the info.

I will still enquire tomorrow so will report back if 5pm was doable cheaply

Thanks for responses.
