I am flying to BK in 2 weeks, at night to get a van to Jomtien/Pattaya the following day. I am looking for a nice hotel, with AC, max 600thb/night, close to the airport, and close to the skytrain, to get me to the Liberty Monument the next day. Any referral?

600 baht close to DMK? Good luck to you! In any case, you can't be close to both DMK and the Skytrain. The closest Skytrain station to DMK is Mochit, which involves a taxi ride from DMK and then getting stuck in a grim area not known for hotels of any kind. Then there's the issue of minibuses to Pattaya, which are notorious for being driven by tailgating speed maniacs. Again, good luck to you! Unless you land in DMK very late, take a taxi to Mochit (but bargain hard!!!), then the Skytrain to Phaya Thai. Find a hotel nearby, then catch an Airport Link train to BKK (not at all the same thing as the Skytrain, which doesn't go anywhere near BKK), then the hourly bus to Jomtien (Level 1, Gates 7-8), which is cheaper and far safer than a minivan.

I might recommend getting a ride with Mr. T taxi here in Pattaya. He'll have a car waiting for you at the airport and take you to Pattaya for some 1200B or so. We normally come in late at night into Swampy and always go this route. Very reliable. Just a thought....
