Posting iPad from UK to Thailand

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm planning to send my old iPad from the UK to my gf in Thailand. What kind of post or courier should I use?

Is it possible that the package would be opened and taxed by Thai Customs - if so, what can I do to avoid this?

If they find it, they can keep it. It's worth about 40 pounds on ebay. I don't want to pay 400 pounds for a new one.

It's just something for her to watch films on, not something to show off to her friends.

Declare it correctly as follows;

Item: Tablet Computer - Used

Value: GBP40.00

If there is a field on the declaration for Country of Origin, enter "CN".

The chances are it will sail through customs and be delivered. Tablet computers (like ipad) are exempt from duty so worst case she will receive a notice to collect from the post office and pay VAT on the CIF value.

So if postal cost is e.g. GBP20 then it will GBP60 = THB3300 x 7% = THB231.00 due.

I would also add the purchase date to reinforce that it is an old one. Even better if you can include the original invoice, then state. Purchased May 2012 cost GBP 280 (original invoice included). Current used value GBP 40. Personal gift.

Thanks for the advice. Royal Mail works out to be about 15 quid for the parcel. Deciding now if I should post it or just bring it with me when I visit Thailand in a couple of months.
