Reports: At least 20 killed in Turkish capital bomb attack

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey's Dogan News agency is reporting that at least 20 people have been killed in bomb explosions in the center of the Turkish capital Ankara.

The attack on Saturday morning apparently targeted a peace rally to denounce the increased violence between Kurdish rebels and Turkish security forces.

Television footage from the news agency showed several people lying injured on the streets.

No other details were immediately available.

30 KILLED, 126 INJURED IN ANKARA BOMB ATTACKS

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) -- Turkey's Interior Ministry says two bomb explosions apparently targeting a peace rally in the capital Ankara has killed 30 people and injured 126 others.

The ministry said the explosions occurred as demonstrators were starting to gather for the rally Saturday. It condemned the attack which it said "targets Turkey's democracy and peace."

The explosions occurred minutes apart near Ankara's train station as people gathered for the rally organized by the country's public sector workers' trade union. The rally aimed to call for an end to the renewed violence between Kurdish rebels and Turkish security forces.

It was not clear if the attacks, which came weeks before Turkey's Nov. 1 elections, were suicide bombings

I guess someone there doesn't really want peace. Not much money in peace.

War is better for the economy and helps to take attention away from the rampant corruption in governments.

The Islamofascist Erdogan is now using his jihadis (either local or foreign) to launch terror and intimidation against the Kurdish and leftist opposition.

Shame on the dirtbags who still support him and AKP (still about 35-40 percent of the voters).

I am in Turkey now; and the AKP fascists have now blocked (or at least extremely slowed down) twitter. It has been so difficult to access in the past couple of hours.

And, I fear even darker days are awaiting Turkey.

Also, shame on the so-called liberals who, until recently, have been portraying this Islamofascist as a 'moderate, democratic leader'.

There are now reports that the death toll is at least 86.

Deadly Ankara blasts highly likely to be suicide bombings, says Turkish PM

606x341_315015.jpg

At least 86 people have died in twin blasts in Ankara, which Turkish officials claim are likely to have been suicide bombings.

In the deadliest attack of its kind in modern Turkey’s history, the explosions ripped through a rally of pro-Kurdish and leftist activists in the centre of the country’s capital.

Health Minister, Mehmet Muezzinoglu, announced 186 people had been injured, 28 of whom are said to be in intensive care.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has announced the government has “substantial intelligence that the attack was undertaken by two suicide bombers.”

He has declared three days of national mourning.

The blasts occurred in quick succession near the exit of Ankara’s main train station, at 10.04 am local time.

Turkish government officials say they are treating the incident as a terrorist attack

Davutoglu quickly arranged a meeting with heads of Turkey’s police and intelligence agencies. He has been roundly criticised by the opposition in the aftermath of the blasts.

Leader of the opposition CHP Party Kemal Kilicdaroglu told the press:
“I don’t want to blame anyone in particular today. But, of course, we have to underline something: is this how a country is being ruled? We can live together peacefully in this country.”

The pro-Kurdish HDP has blamed the ruling AK Party for the attack, with leader Selahattin Demirtaş reportedly labelling the AKP “murderers.” Both parties have cancelled forthcoming rallies for the November 1 general election.

Another world tragedy, wonder who perpetrated this attack, although is there really any need to wonder who??

Better send in the BIB, they will, for a couple of million Baht sort it out in a day or 2, identify dozens of nameless people, issue arrest warrants, and charge at least one person with probable involvement as the bomber (we think he is, well we are not quite sure).

Sad. I really lost the want to live in this horrible hole called Turkey.

And as a socialist, I am deeply saddened because this was a blow upon us by the Islamists, encouraged by the Islamofilth president Erdogan.

:(

Tens of young people died.

Things that have always mystified me and can never understand.

It is the instinct of every living creature to survive, so how do people become so brainwashed as to make them voluntary suffer an horrific death by becoming suicide bombers, disposable elements for any particular cause.

A combination of religion and stupidity.

And there is a lot more to come, unfortunately.

I had previously posted, and it somehow disappeared from that thread... Erdogan is the/a "Once and Future Caliph." (Or so this is his prime contest with DAESH, that he should be caliph and not al baghdadi). He is couched in Turkish secular politics but that now only remains as a shell in Turkey; Ataturk's Turkey is gone. Erdogan has effectively gutted most institutions and what now exists is an islamic state infrastructure. The combined opinions on TV already know who committed these acts and we know the motivation underlying these acts. And this, a NATO member? It says more about the bankruptcy of the West than the debauchery of a Turkish state to the region. NATO permits this slide into despotism. It begs the question: Who wants Turkey to leave secularism and turn fascist?

BBC is reporting the death toll to be near 100 now. And there was another suicide bombing in Africa, killing 20. Absolutely awful. Although, if the people that did this had the capabilities, the headline would read "drone strike" instead of "suicide bomb".

It is just a matter of time...and not much more time...before these reports of bomb attacks on innocent civilians will be coming regularly from western countries who have been somewhat isolated from these insane events up until now...

As much as I am in favor of accepting immigrants from the war torn ME...there will be a price to pay for Christian hospitality...by those who would destroy western Christian capitalist societies...

What? And take all the massage girls out of circulation?

If all the Thai girls were taken out of circulation, Farangs would have to remain faithful to their wives.

It would be a worldwide disaster on an unprecedented scale.

This is not a laughing matter - more than 100 killed in a senseless attack on a peaceful gathering that wanted to promote a peaceful settlement of the Kurdish question in Turkey.

More of the injured will die from this blast, others will be crippled for life. And for what? Because Islamists, whether from ISIS (as the Turkish government now states) or supporters of Erdogan (as many Turks are suggesting), want to drag parts of the world back to the 12th century. This must not happen.

Turkey is a member of NATO and as such deserves the full support of it's partners in this time of distress. I don't know if Erdogan will welcome military combat troops on Turkey's soil, as has been suggested by the US, but surely we can help with medical care, with help for the Syrian refugees being hosted by Turkey - more than 2 million of them - and with suggestions of ways to sort out the Kurdish problem. Also to lower the rhetoric on the historical Armenian question. Turkey has an old history of poor governance of it's empire (caliphate), but so to has Britain and France. We have basically put behind us the colonial history of the UK, and of France, the atrocities of both World Wars, the divisions within Europe, but I have not seen such acceptance that Turkey, since Kamal Ataturk, is a modern state with views in line with those of most European states. I have not lived in Turkey, but I have worked with many Turks in many countries, and have found them to be of very similar views as myself.

Things are spilling over....Even containment is out of the question. As this problems spreads east and west (from the middle)...one would want to consider options. The whole trouble with this is that it only takes two people to wreak havoc.

funny how the blame always falls on the most obvious parties….could it not be someone else….russia has plenty reason to send turkey a warning as well.

Sorry I had called you a 'jer.' earlier. I was really angry and upset at what happened here in Turkey (still am). Anyway, that post was deleted by an admin; and again, sorry for calling you that.

I was also upset at what you wrote, because you got me wrong in a major way. I had just mentioned the fact that twitter was down; it didn't mean that I saw that as the most important thing. I don't know why you misunderstood my earlier post.

Of course, social media is not the most important thing in such incidents; but it DOES play an important role; especially in Turkey, where the mainstream media is heavily controlled and manipulated by the thugs of the president and government. So, often, people get reliable and important news from social media. And, in this horrible incident, social media was important for instance for people who were wondering and worried about their loved ones, who they thought may have been affected by the bombing.

I fear even worse times are awaiting Turkey.
