jet ski insurance

Featured Replies

doesnt seem to be reported on this site but city hall has told jet ski operators that they need to have insurance on their craft by 31st October 2015.

my opinion is that no insurance company on the planet is going to deal with these people and city hall wont enforce this but I guess time will tell

Must have insurance.....or else !! Nothing will happen just like all the times before.

Every person that even sets foot near a jet ski or operator should have it as well......

Amazing that I simply have never been scammed in all my years of using them. Never once. I can only assume its because I'm friendly in the beach locations with the Guys who rent them just enough to obviously never warrant a pull...

Can't believe ANYONE still hires jet-skis on Pattaya beach except illiterate deaf-mutes.

even if they make them have insurance they will get round it by saying craft out of action for several days so i need loss of profit.............pay me or pay hospital more (still my favourite line i have overheard)

Jet ski insurance is going to be mandatory in October 2015?

This is nonsense and the Mayor/Police know it. They said this in 2011 & 2013.....

2011 Pattaya Daily News:

http://pattayadailynews.com/pattayas-jet-ski-problems-not-solved-yet/

"2011 Pattaya Municipalily called for the jet ski operators to register their jet ski businesses, to have insurances and stop extorting money from tourists.

2013 All jet skis were required to have insurance since February 28, 2013. See below Pattaya People link:

http://www.pattayapeople.com/Community-News/Feb.-28-Due-Date-for-Jet-Ski’s-Insurance-

"All members of the Jet Ski Club, and Jet Ski operators and owners, must buy a policy by February 28th, 2013."

2013 Pattaya Mail link:

http://www.pattayamail.com/localnews/jet-ski-anti-scam-committee-approves-stronger-mandatory-insurance-system-20925

"January 2013 The panel, comprised of city and provincial government and police officials, voted unanimously Jan. 5 to approve the new insurance requirements, which they hope will remove the incentive for jet ski vendors to extort tourists for hundreds of thousands of baht in alleged damage.

The Deputy Mayor has been holding "emergency" meetings about jet ski thugs since 2008.

Time after time, he pretends to care and the beach thugs continue to to use violence and intimidation to scam & defraud our visitors.

Isn't it time some journalist grew a pair of balls and questions these people?

So, the Deputy Mayor has been tasked, since 2008 to move against the decades old jet ski thugs.

I wonder why the Mayor puts up with the incompetence?

8 years later he he is still talking......

cheesy.gif 2008. After years of unsuccessful attempts to stop the jet ski scam the Deputy Mayor "finally moves against jet ski vendors."cheesy.gif

http://www.pattayamail.com/localnews/pattaya-officials-finally-move-against-jet-ski-vendors-5384?ref=pmci

2008 Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh told vendors assembled that all watercraft vendors must report to Pattaya City Hall by Aug. 10 to provide copies of identification cards, vehicle registration and other documents which would be distributed to city hall and police officials. Licenses would eventually be issued and Ronakit said matters related to insurance for the jet skis would be discussed at a later meeting.

its almost like city hall has wants to encourage visitors to get scammed, almost like they have a financial interest in this, but of course we know that cant be true

2013. Thaisri has been signed to provide insurance to cover Pattaya jet skis.

http://www.pattayamail.com/localnews/marine-department-units-inspect-jet-skis-along-pattaya-beach-40702

"At a Sept. 17, 2013 meeting of an “emergency” committee formed to resolve the issue, Chonburi Gov. Khomsan Ekachai said Thaisri Insurance plc has been signed to provide insurance cover for the 452 jet skis operating in Pattaya, Jomtien Beach and Koh Larn."

January 18, 2013 Pattaya Deputy Mayor said:

"Deputy Mayor Ronakit said 467 jet skis have so far been registered with the city. All insured jet skis will carry stickers visible to renters and those operators found not to be carrying insurance will be barred from operating."

I rented one while out on Ko Larn. Didn't have any issues. way back in 2005 I think it was.

They don't scam every customer.

A lady friend that works in a restaurant across from the beach told me the beach thugs were instructed to target the Indians and Arabs after the Mayor initiated his failed crackdown in 2011.

Leave the westerners alone they were told.

cant really say much here but the scam is pretty much restricted to pattaya beach because thats where their uniformed backers operate, outside that area they may try the odd scam but they dont have the same protection

Thai beaches are under the control of the Navy, no?

I will propose the jet skis operating in the area are owned by some Navy big wig. Perhaps with relatives at the top of the Thai food chain. Untouchables apparently.

Yeah. The USA and UK and other European folks are likely to be a little better informed, know more locals, have more local friends, know more about the police, and how to handle scam attempts, etc. They probably are considered to require more effort by the scammers to actually follow through and collect money.

It should be a moot point because anybody stupid enough to swim in Pattaya Beach has no common sense and deserves to be a target.

In Pattaya the beach is controlled by city hall, police seem to be instructed to stay away, the navy occasionally rearranges the deck chairs

the chonburi region is pretty much controlled by one family who you can find out about on the internet

I have spotted the management, sitting above the beach at Soi 11, overseeing this gang of beach thugs.

A really ugly, overweight, older Thai lady. She is a disgusting creature tossing her food wrappers all over the place. Once in a while an older Thai guy shows up and sits there. He is clearly in control. The old lady gets down on the ground and does a pedicure on him. Thats the guy that needs to be interrogated.

Subject to debate? Nothing to debate there.......

  • 1 month later...

some of the jet ski although by no means all now carry what looks like a sticker to show insurance.

unforunately the wording is in thai but they are numbered top right side

Yes, I have seen the same stickers. Maybe ask the vendors first if insurance is included beforee you consider a ride.

I think the sticker just says it's registered with the port authority. Doesn't specifically mention insurance.
