As attacks continue, Israeli army begins deploying troops

JERUSALEM (AP) — Hundreds of soldiers fanned out in cities across Israel on Wednesday and authorities erected concrete barriers outside some Arab neighborhoods of east Jerusalem in a stepped up effort to counter a monthlong wave of Palestinian violence that has seen near daily attacks.

Iran sends fighters to Syria, escalating its involvement

BEIRUT (AP) — Hundreds of Iranian troops are being deployed in northern and central Syria, dramatically escalating Tehran's involvement in the civil war as they join allied Hezbollah fighters in an ambitious offensive to wrest key areas from rebels amid Russian airstrikes.

Thailand to host automobile manufacturers meeting on Oct 21-23

BANGKOK, The Thai Automotive Industry Association (TAIA) has been selected to host the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) meeting on October 21-23.


According to TAITA President Thanawat Kumsin, this year’s event will see automobile manufacturers from 38 countries gathering to find measures to improve the auto industry worldwide, such as developing new safety technologies, reducing environmental impact and improving fuel efficiency. The meeting will also serve as a means to enhance Thailand’s contribution to the automobile industry and potentially boost tourism and the domestic economy.

As for the increase in excise tax for new automobiles which is to to take effect next January , Mr Thanawat said the hike would increase the prices of certain models but would pose no negative affects on the country’s automobile industry, as the tax increase coincides with increased product quality and environmental friendliness.

Thai citizens told to avoid rally sites in Israel

BANGKOK, 15 October 2015 (NNT) - The Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel has issued warnings for Thai citizens to exercise caution as they go about their daily lives, following recent terrorist attacks in the country.


The Thai Embassy has announced on its Facebook page that the protests have now spread to various parts of Israel, such as Ranana, Holon, Kiryat Gat and Petach Tikvah.

Armed attacks on innocent civilians have also been reported in Jerusalem. Thai nationals living in Israel have been told that the situation could escalate, after Israeli authorities raised security levels.

The embassy further stated that even though protesters are not targeting Thai citizens, innocent bystanders are still at risk whenever protests turn violent.

PHUKET: -- Devotees of a small Chinese shrine in Phuket have filed a complaint with Muang District Office requesting an investigation be made into the shrine’s president because they suspect he has not been keeping a full record of the shrine’s finances.

8 ethnic rebel armies sign cease-fire pact with Myanmar govt


NAYPYITAW, Myanmar (AP) — Myanmar's government and eight smaller ethnic rebel armies signed a cease-fire agreement to end more than six decades of fighting, but several more powerful groups refused to come on board, signaling that peace will remain elusive for some time to come.

8 provinces in Thailand remain flooded

BANGKOK, 15 October 2015 (NNT) - The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has revealed that eight provinces currently coping with floods will soon recover if it does not rain in the next few days.


DDPM Director General Chatchai Promlert said the flood situation in a total of 17 districts in Rayong, Nakhon Nayok, Prajinburi, Ubon Ratchathani, Kamphaeng Phet, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Sawan and Phichit provinces will return to normal within a couple days, as flood levels have continuously declined.

As for the South of Thailand, the DDPM has coordinated with local authorities in preparing 24-hour emergency services to its residents, as thunderstorms have been forecast in the region.

Mae Hong Son border trade drops to the tune of THB 20 million

MAE HONG SON, 15 October (NNT) – The Commerce Office of Mae Hong Son has reported a drop in the province’s exports to Myanmar in September.


The province's export value last month fell by 20 million baht, to 60 million baht. The Commerce Office of Mae Hong Son attributed the decline to inactive imports at the Ban Sao Hin temporary crossing in Mae Sariang District.

Best-selling exports included canned beer, whisky, flavor enhancers, instant coffee, white sugar, soy milk, wine, second-hand backhoes, canned fish and white rice. Sales of canned beer have significantly jumped as operators have been stocking up on beverages for New Year. Export of canned beer alone pushed the border trade value up to 18 million baht.

Meanwhile, the import value rose by 31 percent to 85 million baht. Top imports include live cattle, antimony and consumer products.

Turkey imposes media blackout on reporting of Saturday’s twin bombing
