Food Hygiene Checks during Pattaya Vegetarian Festival

PATTAYA: -- The Pattaya Public Health Department are currently conducting food hygiene checks around the City and are running a 10 day campaign during the Pattaya Vegetarian Festival which is ongoing until 22nd October.

A team of Public Health Officers spent Wednesday in the Naklua area where checks on a number of food vendors and their products were made. The team were specifically looking for Coliform Bacteria, of which a variant of this particular Bacteria is E.coli, which can cause a variety of illnesses including diarrhea and vomiting.

So what are these hygiene checkers doing the other 50 weeks of the year? I mean, vegetables are prepared and eaten during the whole year. Has this Coliform Bacteria only High Season during some festivals when some people avoid some meat (as good as possible)?

On a more serious note: How long does it take here to make such analyses?

So are these "hygiene checks" only done once a year ?

I truly cannot believe vendor food is hygienic.

Sterilization ? Refridgeration ? I think not.

Eat at your peril.

And I doubt when a vendor is preparing food, cleanliness is anywhere on the agenda.
